Jay Wilson video interview with Diablo3-ESP

A few interesting tidbits in this press conference type interview from this year's Blizzcon. A lot of topics were covered: class resources, item stats, tool tips, matchmaking, crafting, interactive environments, murlocs and more.

Unfortunately the audio quality is quite poor and sometimes its quite difficult to understand what Jay was saying. :unimpressed:

    part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHquSGK4Oxo

    part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVunn_qfnio

Its funny how the other guy (J. Allen Brack) got no questions at all. I wonder if Diablo3-ESP edited some WoW stuff out?

None of it's in Spanish. Good interview, sounds like they still have lots of work to do yet

The interview is all in English, only the demon hunter intro is Spanish.

I couldn't make out Jay's answer to what seemed like the most interesting part about weapon looks.

Re: Jay Wilosn video interview with Diablo3-ESP

Weapon looks? If you are talking about the part where the question was about artisans, then I think what he said was that there are masteries for the artisans. You can for example, have your blacksmith focus on swords if you are really into swords, but later on you can have your blacksmith focus on axes, without losing the focus on swords. He mentioned you could keep doing this, but didn't say how it was done, or what the other artisans masteries were. He just used the example of the blacksmith.

Re: Jay Wilosn video interview with Diablo3-ESP

Q: we will have new content via patches, or only with expansions?
A: we haven't really looked into our post-release content plans, but I wouldn't expect us to do big content patch updates like World of Warcraft or like an MMO. I'm sure we will do some content updates as we can, but they'll likely be smaller, probably something more similar to |???] sometimes does, content updates to their patches, and it's not something we'll consider to be on schedule, we'll do it based on need or based on "hey, we built this thing that we think is really cool, that we wanna put out now, we don't wanna wait for an expansion"... so I'm sure we'll do some things but we don't have a formal plans.

Aww, I was hoping for huge WoW-style content patches.

They did, but Jay apologized to Allen for the amount of Diablo questions later in the interview so I guess they didn't have to edit too much out :)

    The [???] is "Starcraft II".

Yeah I thought so too (Jay wouldn't use a non-Blizzard title as reference) but it just sounded too different.

Re: Jay Wilson video interview with Diablo3-ESP

I'm sad that they are struggling so much with the resource system. Such a beautiful idea, but so difficult to make it work in the game.

From what I understood, Jay said that right now there are these "really grand giant (glorious?)" item tooltips and art when you hover a (cardboard?) item and because of that the comparison feature ends up taking the whole screen, which is bad because you want to see your character while changing gear, so they are considering redoing all the tooltip art to fit the comparison feature.

    Other interesting things:

    - Showing an icon over your head when you're busy with the inventory, skill window or something else (hopefuly AFK too) to make it easier to comunicate that to your friends in multiplayer

    - PVP Matchmaking taking gear level in consideration. This is very good for new players :)

I did a non-verbatim transcription of the whole thing and put it into a main page news post.

Here's a quote, without all the links and images. Go to the main page version for those.

    Flux is awesome.

Double up as in work harder or double up as in give some classes two unique resource systems (i.e. stuff like Instability might make a comeback).

Yeah, but Arcane Power just being unscaling Mana doesn't seem very exciting either. If Mana just works better for two classes I'd be disappointed but I can't blame them for picking good gameplay over novelty.

Re: Jay Wilson video interview with Diablo3-ESP

Yeah, but still. It would be really, really cool to see a caster resource system that is not mana. Though, then again, Barbarian and Monk got jipped on ranged weaponry access, so weapon versatility can be the "offset" for using mana for the caster classes.

Maybe their WD "green goo" idea they mentioned at Blizzcon will bear fruit.

    (get it?)

Really, I'm pretty surprised they're having such a hard time with this. I mean, I don't imagine it's easy finding an improvement to the tried-and-true mana system, but these are some awfully talented, creative folks. It can't be that hard, can it?
