It's been a long time...

I haven't played Diablo 2 in a very long time. I got tired of the cheaters, hackers, etc. on battlenet. I played SP for about 6 months, but after waiting for the promised 1.10 patch, it never happened. I stopped playing altogether. About a year later than promised by Blizzard, the patch came out, so my interest has slowly come back.

I'm not here to ask for character advice or about specific changes in 1.10, but I'm here to ask one thing. Should I bother playing multiplayer? Did 1.10 solve the hacking, duping, etc. problems out there? I know that not too long ago Blizzard banned 10,000 cd-keys of known hackers, and I believe 1.10 was supposed to pretty much kill off hacking.

I ask because I'd like to play on the hardcore ladder. I believe they are reset every so often to keep it as legit as possible. So, did 1.10 lower the amount of hacking and duping to the point where it is playable on bnet, or should I just not bother and play SP again?

Obviously some of you may be biased since this is the Single Player forum, but when I used to be a member here back when I played(forgot my screenname, but it was wayne something) this was where I spent all of my time. Given the OT threads I can see, it appears that the community hasn't changed much when it comes to slightly offtopic threads, or threads that could very well be posted elsewhere.

So, if you do indeed think I should play SP again(which I will state for the record bored me to tears after doing it for 6 months and playing all by myself), then does the players X option still work in SP?

I just don't know where to start really, and I thought maybe some of you guys could help out. I see a few names I remember, and I know a lot of you guys have been helpful in the past, so perhaps you could give me some advice this time around.

The players x command does work. Most of us play players 8 through NM and then usually turn it down some for hell.

You should give it a try again. Some people here play MP games all the time. We have a sticky I am sure you saw. Post your IP and others will come to play in your game or join someone elses game. Just remember that your map resets all the time in MP. You can play MP exclusively if you want to.

Oh, and welcome to the SPF. Or, welcome back, Wayne something. Stop in at the EMB and have one on me! :drink:

I haven't played on b.net for a few months, but as of my departure, hacks weren't as bad as in 1.09. Not by a long shot. A lot of the worst items, like iths, were gone.

Part of the problem I had, though, was that nobody actually played the game anymore. It was just Baal run after Baal run. I'll admit that 1.09 hell was similar for cow runs, but that was just hell, this is all difficulties. At the very least, cow runs were highly amusing, too. I just thought I'd warn you about that. Best of luck, whichever method of play you choose.

Though I don't venture ever to B.Net, I am pretty sure that Hacking and Duping are still the norn on B.Net. The "Rust Storm" did some good, but didn't really solve to many of the problems and w/ the new rune cubing recipies runes and runewords are more duped now than ever.

My advice is to stick around the SPF for a little bit and play some SP and/or MP w/ the people here at the SPF. You may find that it is exponentially better than any experience you ever had w/ B.Net

In the past I found that TCP/IP games around here were better than bnet, but since it's been so long I have to get to know everyone again, and they have to get to know me. I may start playing tomorrow. I don't have to work and my N64 controller is busted so I can't play any Paper Mario. It's the only game on the N64 that I missed out on, and now my joystick is messed up.

I may start tomorrow. I'm downloading music tonight. I usually don't listen to the default music and instead run winamp in the background or something. I can usually tolerate the game much better that way, especially after getting a playlist of a few hundred mp3's set to random.

Perhaps that's all I need not to get bored is just the music and the occasional TCP/IP player. If I didn't have to get to know everyone again so I knew who to trust, I would probably be less hesitant to do that.
