Items Off The Ledge???

We have all seen D3 having great physics and all that with the cool destructive environments etc. But this raises a doubt. Can items dropped on the floor be pushed off the edge of a cliff onto the head of some unlucky player(lucky if it's a unique)at the foot of the cliff? Do AoE skills push items off due to their physical properties? Please comment. Will this be a feature you would want to see?

It sounds to me like it would add a very cool amount of realism, but would be far too annoying to ever actually be implemented. Can you imagine killing Baal and having your drop be knocked off the platform by your last meteor?

Nah, items won't drop near the edge - but if they do, than they will probably just glitch and float on air. I'm fairly certain that items won't be lost into chasms.

I for one would love to see this feature in d3.
It would be even cooler than the source engine, since in diablo your items are virtually your character.

But I suppose that it would cause too many problems- Online play would be hell [no pun intended:) ] with griefers sending your hard earned loot flying with their tornadoes & seismic slams...

Still, it would be fun in single player searching for the lost loot...

Loot isn't affected by physics. So no worries.

There's another problem. Because individual loot, good deal of items have very good chance of never being seen. If your character kills a lot off screen, nobody is going to pick your items up or even notice you. I fear that I will be constantly playing and feeling like I'm missing items, trying to run around looking for them. Of course there are some things that could help:

1) Having larger resolution than 800x600 sure helps a lot.
2) Loot would be visible, but only pickable to someone (you could see "Ring (mouseman)" on the floor). You could limit this so that only rare/set/unique would be seen by other players.
3) Loot arrows. If a rare/set/unique drops off screen, you could have an appropriately colored arrow pointing to it.

I like the second idea, because it's always nice to know what others are getting. There's no harm in that.

Yeah no one will be able to steal your loot because they won't be able to see it since we now all have separate loot tables, so not to worry about that. But I think it would be pretty silly to be able to knock items of edges. Considering you couldnt go over the edge in Diablo or Jump Im assuming the items will be constricted by boundaries aswell and just bounce of an invisible wall.

I think that's a pretty cool idea, it would be funny to see your friend's reactions when a Unique Ring drops for you.

And about items falling off the ledge, this would be a game-breaking flaw.
So no.

in other games it has been implemented in such way that the items dropped for you can be seen by other players but only you can pick it up. that way you can decide if you want the loot or not, but other people can still congrat you for getting a worthwhile drop.

guess that will be the end of cow level junk picking.

there are few gameplay videos, even the one that Blizzard made to introduce the game, we can see an items falling from demons, but they don't even move, so seems that the items are not affected by physics, they will stay on the same place they were dropped to no matter what u cast, whirlewind or meteor or smth.

It would actually be hilarious. Critters can be blown away by those Flaming Skulls (not an obscure Shang Tsung reference), why not everything else, including loot? Bonus Easter eggs.
More variety is better than less. You just gotta be careful where you cast your spells.

If you want to beat the holy potatoes out of a Fallen mob and have em drop like a sack of potatoes off the cliff, then go ahead, but it would also have its downside, particularly if one drops something you've been after for a while.

Adds more variety and deepens the overall gaming experience, just like destructible elements and monsters dropping chandeliers on your head do. Other games have that, say a bag of gold drops too close to the water and ends up getting sucked in, and if you attempt to go get it, you drown yourself if you stay underwater for too long.

Just a few tidbits that you have to beware of here and there, more fun.

This *might* be funny the first few times. After that, it'd be an extremely irritating thing.. Not that it matters, 'cause like has already been said, items aren't effected by the physics.

A game called Nox did that. And I say that's the most annoying thing in that game.

Re: Items Off The Ledge???

I had some purpule(unique) items drop and roll down cliffs in Titanquest doe to physics, where my character was unable to go down after it. The worst part about it was that you could still see the item name on the screen, just veeeeeeeeeeery far down the cliffside....:weep:

The items where not afflicted by spells or the like, but if you sent a monster over the cliffside with your hammer, standing on a cliffside at a downwards angle (and a light weastern breeze for all i know:propeller:), rings and such could roll over the side if dropped to close. I would not like to see that again.....

Re: Items Off The Ledge???

It used to irritate me when I played the NES Megaman games and I'd kill an enemy over a pit and he'd drop a 1-Up that fell into the chasm. Those had a 1/128 chance of dropping. Extrapolate that to the drop rates of some of the items in D2 and imagine how RAGE'D I'd be.

Definitely no on this. ;)

There are item price guides out there buy they become outdated too fast since items are based off of the hr prices also

Re: Items Off The Ledge???

Items in d2 could sometimes fall off the ledge, especially with ghosts, and with storm casters who seemed to delight in dying over the River of Flame. Andy's stuff kept falling in holes in the ground unless you kill he in just the right spot. I found this annoying and avoided those areas. I figgure Blizzard will make the loot pop to the lege where it stays until you pick it up.

And I'm sure they won't allow tornado to move items or else tornado wizards whould be shuned.
