Items Item Items... Useless Useless Useless?

i'm curious... right now in NM just starting Act III

i've found a lot of uniques and a lot of sets - some of the sets look good, but don't seem all that useful

i'm curious... other than just being able to say i have them - is there much use for all these items? i can only wear one piece of headgear right, so what's the point in there being 50,000,000 different types... almost seems really, really pointless. So far i've tossed all my uniques, sets and good magical items in individual stashes...

so what so people here to with their items? just look at them? maybe start up a character that could use them? or maybe use them on the current char? i'm not sure what to do with mine really.

Keep the best one or two of each for the grail, then trade/giveaway everthing else I can.

Well you can of course use them on other chars, for example the some of the helms you have found is maybe not good for necro but much better for barb. Of course many useless items exist (at least when you have found most of the exceptional/elite ones) but then give them away to those who really need them

You can't use all the items at once anyway. I normally keep 2(or 3 if one is etheral). One for the grail and one for a playing char. Just think of interesting builds to use them on.

sometimes it's more fun to be unique than to be the best.

for example, my upcoming porn star build, which uses The Diggler to great effect!

it's a game. err on the side of cool.

I keep them all on the assumption I may have a use for them someday. The fact I tend to run multiple characters (I currently have seven on the go, with 2 or 3 more builds fizzling in the back of my brain) makes it easier to find a use for stuff, mind you!

You can get some very good items from Act III Nightmare (including Titans, Occulus and Shaftstop), so there are items available for you there that you may want to keep for future characters - it's up to you.

Why would you continue to play the game if only the correct items dropped for your character. I think it would get boring really quickly if all the items you get would work on the character you are playing. Just think about those ligit players that play untwinked and have to use those crappy items because thats the best they have.

For instance I am using a pair of heavy gloves with 24% magic find and a resist. I have not found anything better yet when I do it will get replaced. But even in Hell I will end up seeing crude gloves drop. Some people have not found the better items yet.

that wasn't really what i was saying. i never said only correct items should drop... i said what's the point in keeping all of them? or having them? But i'm also curious why there's so many useless items. I guess it makes it all the better when you find a useful one though. But it's made my life hell for characters like barbarians who i've never gotten passed normal with.

I also play untwinked - my character has 19% mf gloves, with no resist - so HA! I win ;0

it's also funny you would say untwinked players are "legit"... people on this forum hate cheating - yet "twinking" is a very, very common thing on here... I would think you're the only one who'd say it's cheating.

Well, if you find a REALLY crappy item, chances are good it's a TC3 unique, and most grail collectors will bite your arm off at the elbow to get hold of those because they're actually quite rare (by the time monsters are high enough level to drop the unique they're generally too high level to commonly be dropping TC3s!).

Twinking = getting items from higher level characters bytrading or for free.

This is not cheating. It is actually way the gme has designed to work.

    How come, you may ask.

If you look at the original DII sets you'll find that most of them are usable only on low level characters. But at the same time the item levels are so high that no such low level character can find the whole set.

So this means that the low level character to get use of the full set has to get some of those items from higher level characters.

Before I knew about ATMA I was very dissapointed in this design as I only played solo and had no way to move items from one character to another.

Now that I retired all of my SC characters I'm in a situation with my HC characters that between them (three of them) they have one set buckler and one unique mace. They also have only two runes and two jewels. Nice to be poor once again.

    Yours: Topi

I never meant that untwinked players are ligit. What I meant is that ligit players that are playing untwinked would have to use those "crappy" items since that is the best they have at that point.

I am not saying that twinking is cheating. I do it all the time especially when I need a cube before leaving act1 normal.
