Item suggestions for an affordable bowazon

Hey all! I've just started a bowazon. However, I'm not terribly wealthy, and it will probably be a while before I can afford a Fort for myself and Faith bow for my merc. Currently the only really "high-end" item I've got is a Windforce I'm completing a trade for this evening. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what affordable gear I should use?

cats eye
gores, treks, morrows
razortail, tgods, string of ears
lava gouts or crafted ones
duriels shell
manald heal, raven frost, dwarf, soj

hmm..it's not terribly expensive and most of the items can be found. I always have the worst luck finding rings. 90% of the time I trade for them.

Some of those things are kind of rare. Tgods is harder to find, so are those boot options. I would recommend Sander's boots. As a starter set they are decent. 10 dex and 40 FRW is a nice little bonus and they are easy to find.

Some of those other things are decent suggestions, like Manald, Raven, and Duriel's, although you don't need Duriel's if you get a raven (or vice-versa). If you can't find LoH gloves craft something with KB.

Good and cheap armor is treachery, very good ias to reach a bp, poison dmg from venon for a cost of a lem rune and the armor is cool.

He doesn't need KB though, since he has a WF. I would say treachery would be very good for you. Massive IAS and venom.

I recommend going with rares or crafted for gloves, boots and rings. You can often find or make ones with better mods than those you find on set/uniques. I don't ever use Manald, its the worst mana steal ring I have.

Amor: Lionheart runeword (immensely overpowered for the low cost)
Helm: Andys/Tals/Gaze/Steelskull/Mavina - depends on how much ias u need
Belt: Razortail/Nosfaratus/String
Amu: Cats eye/Highlords - i prefer Cats for the frw and dex
Gloves: Definitely LoH - very cheap and very good pvm
Boots: War travs/Gores or if u need even cheaper Cow kings boots are very good (30frw, 20dex, fire dmg)
Rings: Ravenfrost and some rare with whatever mods u need (str/dex/leech/res) or 2x Ravenfrost

I have a few of those items, but i'm not sure in what should I put my stats in!

I have 115 pts to put somewhere, I still am not sure in what.

I have 60 in power

about 100 in dex

mana and life i havent touched.

I'm like level 53, but I didnt use a lot of my points, because I wasnt sure what I used to put stuff in when I was playing back in 2003

strength should only be as much as equipment requires. Nothing in energy! ever!

Then u can either put points in vitality until you feel you have enough life and then the rest in dex - or put all your points in dex for more damage, but you will have less life (glass canon). It depends on your playing style. If you use valk and act 2 merc i would recommend going all dex - you shouldnt get hit much as you have 2 powerful tanks and the stats points are better used in dex for more dmg.

I use only 1 merc.

I decided to max multiple arrow and guided arrow.

As for passive, I put 10 skills in pierce (with my items I have 15 total).

And I thought about doing something risky, but I'm not sure at all... I thought about puttin like 8-10 skill points in critical strike...

Either that or go on and max my Valkie. I'm leaning towards a Valkie...

Here are a few options that no one has mentioned...
+2 Valk wing - skills / frw
Mav Belt - frw / ML

and the normal items: LoH/Lavas

For Wf-budget here are my suggestions:

Armor: Treachery, IAS and Venom. If you trade for one, you might get it cheaper than the costs of making one.
Amulet: Cats Eye is cheap and a good choice even for high-end builds. Atma's is always good for a strafer for its CTC Amp. Highlords have its uses, but more expensive than the other two. Eye of Etlich is solid budget choice if you use FA also.
Boots: Low Gores or Low Wartravelers are the best choices. Cow Boots are cheaper and gives nice mods, also Aldurs boots are solid if you run Chaos alot.
Rings: A low Ravenfrost is available for pgs, dual raven is also good. But try getting a rare lifeleech ring, desireable mods are AR, dex, str, res.
Helm: A low Andariels Visage is a good choice, gives IAS, str and ll as the main mods(beware of the -30fireres). Valkyrie Wing is nice if you use FA. Stealskull is a great overall cheap choice: IAS, leech and MF. Mavina have good IAS, but not much more. Tals helm is cheap, but doesnt come close to Stealskull imo. My choice would be Stealskull, unless you really need more IAS.
Belt: Razortail. The only choice imo, if you think you need the IAS from Nosferatus, then try getting it elsewhere.
Gloves: Laying of Hands. The only choice for a PvM Wf amazon. Costs a few pgs. 350ed, 20IAS and 50fireres are just yummie.

Merc:
If you aint using Atma yourself, then a Reapers Toll is a great option for merc weapon. A non-eth should be available for a few pgs. For armor and helm: almost anything that has Lifeleech and resists will do, add some %dr and they should do just fine.

Here I copied a part of the living on nuts and berries guide, for the poor or beginning player:

Amulets
Atma’s Scarab
Great option, the goodie here is the Chance to Cast Amplify Damage. This lowers monster physical resistances by 100%. It will also remove the immune to physical on monsters. Along with 20% more attack Rating and a nice 75 poison resist it makes it perhaps the best choice. But if you have a WWS bow, this amulet would be a waste.

Cat’s Eye
Solid choice. Gives 20IAS, 25 dex and a nice 30faster run/walk. For PvP it is the best amulet, hands down, but is a good choice for PvM also.

Highlord’s Wrath
Another good option, 20IAS, 1skill and a nice 33lightning resist. But the true power here is the Deadly Strike, it doubles your damage when it triggers. This doesn’t stack with Critical Strike, so if you have invested more than 1pt in CS, then you don’t need this amulet.

Angelic Halo
This is used mostly for the attack rating it gives, must be used along with Angelic Ring. It als gives nice life. If you find these yourself, it’s an ok option. But should be replaced by others when you can afford it.

Rare Amulet
The mods you should be looking for in an amulet should be something like, +skills/dex/str/leech/resists. Only a few are worth keeping, if you aint sure: ask in forums for valuation before you drop it on the ground.

Rings
Ravenfrost
One of these are a must for an amazon, it gives ‘cannot be frozen’. And a frozen ama is a dead ama. Even a low one is required. It also gives dexterity, attack rating and cold damage. Great ring.

Carrion Wind
Nice option here, it gives nice life leech and 55 poison resist. But the main thing here is the chance to cast Twisters. These will stun the monster for a short while(if they hit), leaving you free to kill them.

Angelic Wings
See: Angelic Halo ring.

Rare Ring
The mods you should be looking for in a rare ring is: Life and mana leech, dex, str, minimum and maximum damage, AR, resists. If not sure if it’s a good ring, ask in trade valuation forums.

Other Rings
Manald for manaleech and Nagelring for magic find(mf). But most of the time even low rares are better than these. But use if noting else is available.

Helms
Andariel’s Visage
One of the best helms for a poor amazon. 20IAS, 2skills, life leech and great strength. The only downside with this is the -30 fire resist, but that is easily solved with a Ral rune. Also recommended to use a 15IAS jewel here if you need more IAS

Harlequin Crest
Not first choice, but if you find one please use. Good for mf.

Giant Skull
Good choice. Gives you strength and Knockback and it has 1-2 open sockets.

Tal Rasha’s Horadric Crest
A little underrated helm for bowa. Gives dualleech, life, mana and resistance. Solid choice vs price.

Stealskull
Great helm here. IAS, mf and dualleech. One of the best vs price imo.

Other helms
Vampire Gaze and Valkyrie Wing and will also do a good job for you.

Boots
Wartravelers
Great boots. The 15-25 damage is the main reason for picking these, it will boost your damage greatly. They also gives you some strength, life and mf.

Gore Rider
Also a pair of great boots. Gives Deadly Strike, Crushing Blow and Open Wounds. Most used for melee characters, but good for bowas also. The OP will shine in high levels..

Other boots
Marrowwalks, only mentioning these for the very nice strength and dexterity boost you get with these. Other than that, these boots don’t have much for you.

Armor
Twitchthroe
This is a little wolf-in-sheepclothings armor. 20IAS, strength and dexterity actually makes this a cheap end-gear armor. I used this myself when taking on Baal. The best non-runeword armor for a bowazon.

Lionhart
Solid armor vs the price. Strenght, dex, life and resists are all good, if it only had some IAS….

Treachery
Allthough it has 2 assasin skills on it, it’s a great option for a bowamazon. 45IAS makes your desireable breakpoint a lot easier to achive. Also has CTC Venom and Fade.

Other Armors
Crow Caw is rather underrated armor, especially vs the price. It gives you IAS, dex, FHR and a nice 35%OP, would go lovely alongside Goreriders.

Gloves
Bloodfist
Nice gloves, 10IAS , life and great Faster Hit Recovery(FHR). Good lowlevel gloves, but should be replaced later on.

Lava Gout
Nice gloves, 20IAS + ctc Enchant gives you speed and damage. Some fire damage and fire resist is also good.

Laying of Hands
The best gloves for almost any PvM Bowamazon. 20IAS and 50 fire resist is ofc good, but the 350% damage to demons are the main issue here. It will make your damage increase alot.

Death’s Hand
Gloves from Death set. Combine these with the belt from same set and you get: 30IAS, CBF, 15 all resist + 8 ll. Great set items.

Sigon’s Gage
Gloves from Sigon’s set. Combine with one other Sigon item and you get 30IAS and 10ll as bonus. Also comes with 10str.

Rare Gloves
The mods you are looking for here are: 20IAS, strength, dexterity, leech and resists. Also for +2 skills, here you will be hoping for passive and magic skills. Bowskills* will not boost your damage much, so try getting passive instead.

Belt
Goldwrap
10IAS and some mf are the main mods here. Good for lower levels, but should be replaced by Nosferatus at a later stage.

Nosferatu’s Coil
Same speed as Goldwrap, but has life leech and strength which is more desireable for your bowamazon.

Razortail
The best belt imo, no matter what your budget is. The main thing here is the 33% Pierce, this will get you 100% with some points put in your Pierce skill. It also gives you +10max damage, it is the same as a 10max damage grand charm and a nice 15 dexterity.

Other Belt
String of Ears can be a fair choice if you don’t have none of the above and Wilhelm’s Pride(Orphan set) can be worth mentioning for its dual leech.

Charms
For normal magic charms look for mods with +max damage, 3 is max for small, 6 for large charms and 10 for grand charms. They come with attack rating also and if you are lucky you get some with a third mod like life, FRW, FHR or maybe some elemental damage. Cold charms ar also good, it will increase your freeze time if you use FA.

Gheeds Fortune
A perfect Gheeds is worth a lot, but the low ones are very cheap. But its not really needed for a bowamazon, but if you don’t have other charms to use, by all means use it.

Hellfire Torch
If you can get your hands on one of these, use it. Gives attribute points and resists and skills.

Annihilus
If you do get hold of one, any will do you good. Gives attribute points and resists and skill.

5. MERCENARY
The most used is the Act2 Offensive bought in Nightmare difficulty. Might gives you and your merc more damage. Alternative is a Act2 Offensive bought in Normal difficulty that gives you Blessed Aim ? more attack rating.

Fore equipment for him, look for resists and life leech. This will make him staying alive more.
Helms like Tal Rasha, Vampire Gaze and Andariels are very popular and good choices. Fore armor, you have options like Leviathan, Gladiators Bane, Shaftstop and Duriels which have all nice mods for your merc. For Weapon you have Reapers Toll that will give you Decrepify, -50% physical res to monsters, but is not needed if you are using Atma Amulet. Other good options is Kelpie Snare, it doesn’t look like much but it has 75% slows monsters that are very handy. Hone Sundan is also a good choice, the 45% Crushing Blow will be helpful against bosses. Two great options are the runewords Insight (Ral+Tir+Tal+Sol) and Obidience(Hel+Ko+Thul+Eth+Fal), solid choices with good damage vs price.

6. SKILLS
Bow skills
Whether you should go with Strafe or Multishot is discussed here: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=442141
Other skills good to use are Frezing Arrow and when maxing Cold Arrow(for synergie) you have a very nice skill that not only does high damage, but also freezes them. Imo you should either have 1pt in FA only or max both FA/CA, nothing in between.
Guided arrow are a nice skill vs bosses, but you will only need 1pt here. Unless, there is a change with the new patch, the fire side of bowskills should be avoided. Magic Arrow is a nice little skill. It requires no arrows and requires very little mana, from lvl 13 it requires 0 mana.

Passive skills
Critical Strike doubles your damage, which is always good. But after lvl 16, the returns are diminishing, so after this its kind of a waste with skillpoints.
Penetrate gives AR, aka higher chance of hitting. The more AR, the merrier. Remember that some equipment gives boost to AR, so its not always needed to max this.
Pierce is the motherskill for bowamazons, high pierce means higher chance of an arrow passing through monsters and hitting the ones behind them. Also remember that some gear give % to pierce, so calculate how many points you need. For example Razortail gives 33% and with pierceskill at lvl 9 gives you 69%, so that will give you total of 102%(you dont need more). Buriza has 100%, so then you don’t need to put any here.
Valkyrie is your best friend as an amazon, the best tank in the game. You may not always need to max this, but imo the stronger the better. And with low gear you will fall in love with a strong Valkyrie in front of you, so will the rest of your party.
Dodge/Avoid/Evade are good skills, but one point is enough for PvM.
Decoy is a skill that you will appreciate after some practising. Practise placing this and you will have a nice..well decoy in front or beside you. But only 1pt is needed here.

7. STATS
Dexterity gives more damage and since you are a ranged attacker with Valkyrie, you will not be hit much. This leaves you in a position to pump dexterity and leaving vitality almost alone. When starting fresh with little or low gear, you might put a few points in vitality though, but don’t go overboard with vita. Its better to save some points for later levels to see if you get killed more than you like to. If you do, then practise more positioning yourself vs monsters and on placing Valk and Decoy. If you still get killed more than your liking, then you can put as few points as necessary. For energy, it might be tempting to put a few here since you will hurt at low level for mana. But take my advice and dont!
Strenght
As little as possible
Dexterity
As much as possible
Vitality
As little as possible
Energy
Nothing
