Is this weapon possible?

I am going to make a Leaf runeword staff.

First, I would like to find one with:

+Cold Skills
+Frozen Orb
+Fireball

Can a 2-socket non-magic staff be found with these skills? I haven't seen them for sale from Drognan, and I'm guessing he won't give level 30 skills. If I can find them dropped, great - tell me where.

I'm in Normal mode at the moment...so if I need to be in another difficulty, let me know.

Why would you want the cold skills? Use leaf to beef up your fire as far as it can go. The best staff I EVER made leaf out of(char is gone now ) was +3 fireball +3 meteor and +1 shiver armor before I runeworded it. That leaf staff was godly... Do something with + to fireball or meteor or both and crank your damage up even more. If you want frozen orb so bad then be a cold sorc. Lvl 3 orb is nothing to write home about really when(if you synergied right) your fireball is doing hella damage. Besides, in NM when you start running into a few more fire immunes you'll upgrade to something better than leaf. Your merc will handle anything else that you can't.

+skill to an entire tree isn't available on a non-magic staff. And yeah... you'll have to find a staff with lvl 24-30 skills on your own.

1. I love Frozen Orb.
2. It will be perfect until I can manage to get Tal Rasha's Lidless Eye.
3. I don't use Meteor.

What other fire skill would I need other than Fireball? I'd have +6 there. May as well get +Frozen Orb and +Cold Mastery since that is what's used of my Cold tree.

That's what I needed to know. So I can end my search for +Cold Skills and stop looking at Drognan entirely.

So at least +3 Frozen Orb and +3 Fireball...anything else is icing on the cake since Leaf will add +3 Fire Skills and +3 Warmth. Cold Mastery would help...those are the skills I actually use as a Fireball/Orb sorc.

+3 Enchant will never hurt. If you ever decide to make an Enchantress later on you can mule it over and use it.


But for shopping this staff from Drognan, I think you should likely just settle for the first eligible +3 Fireball one you get and go with that. You could always hope for something like +teleport (lower mana cost), +static field (better radius), +Warmth (more mana regen never hurts) or even +glacial spike (useful chilling spell).

But personally, I wouldn't bother trying for those - it'd likely require too much time for not enough benefit. Ditto for trying to get +Frozen Orb... since you can't buy it from Drognan, good luck trying to find it... that might take forever to come across. Besides, a Tal's Orb is fairly cheap to trade for, or somewhat easy to find on your own.

The Lidless Eye doesn't give any +to skills until you have one other item from the set...and then still...it's only +1. I probably wouldn't use it until I had a more complete set.

I still think +Fireball and +Frozen Orb would be the best to look for to make a Leaf staff. Thanks for the help, I'll keep anything I find that's somewhat close to ideal.

Where would you recommend hunting for a staff that could spawn with level 30 skills?

TBH, I wouldn't bother with shopping for the most part, keep my eye out for a broad sword in act 5+, Larzuk it, and Spirit it. Make an Ancients Pledge in a Large Shield, and you are good to go.

I woudln't waste a socket quest on anything from normal. Trade for some decent gear or do NM meph runs using the bug.

It's used for +skills...damage means nothing. Why would I need one from NM?

Because items from normal have a low ilvl, and can get very few sockets. So you end up with a 1os staff, or 2os armor (which isn't THAT bad, see Smoke) but still pretty worthless. You can get such items easily by killing some stuff.

besides these shoppings, ever consider doing nm cow? we are, afterall, talking about a level 30 skill here... although, the 2 socket part may be difficult to come by...

Yeah I just thought that you could find them end-game of Normal mode. I'll probably move on to NM before I find one, but who knows.

I'd like to do the same with a wand (white) for my Necromancer, but I'd like a low level requirement so he can equip it sooner rather than later. I've got one already that has +3 Attract and +2 Iron Golem, don't know if that's good or not since I haven't played a Necromancer in 7 years (1.06).

Edit: Just found a Maelstrom...maybe I'll just give him that. Getting OT

It depends on the area where items drop (which determines the item level) and the type of item you're referring to. Plain Crystal Swords (for Spirit) and some plain polearms (Halberd/Poleaxe for Insight) can be very useful since they have the right item levels for 4 sockets if they drop in Act4 or most of Act5.

If I'm playing an untwinked/single-pass caster, I always set aside one of these items, as well as my socketing quest. Usually by the time I finish normal or Act1 Nightmare I have the runes to make one (or both).

finding wands for necro, in my opinion, is easier than finding a 2 sockets staff.... at least u know some wands u can simply socket it with the quest (be aware that not all wnds can have 2 sockets). it's just the matter of finding the right skill, while the staff, u have to find the skill AND the sockets....

Quite so, but if you're workng your way through acts 2-5 in a normal fashion and you dont want to spend to many points in a tree you're not going to use then shopping for a +3 fireball staff makes a lot of sense.

I personally go with +3 firewall staffs when making an orber, a single point in glacial spike followed by a +6 firewall destroys mosts enemies. Playing solo it can take you right through to nightmare, it can certainly get you through to level 30 and the ancients.
