Is this normal?

Hi, my BF installed this game on my computer after nagging me into trying it out. I've never played this kind of game before and I have to admit that I'm having lots of fun with it. I'm a FreeCell kind of a girl normally.

That said I've noticed something that I'm beginning to thing is not normal.

I am getting a lot of treasures every time I kill something, including gold and green treasures, which are supposed to be rare. In fact, so many treasures drop that I can't see the floor anymore. Is there something wrong with my game?

Oh a quick question, are there any guides for novices like me? I tried reading the guides here but they're way over my head.

Most likely you installed one the countless modifications to cheat in singleplayer games.

You might want to ask your BF if he installed some mod which increases drops as it sounds suspiciously like that. I take it you're playing single player and not in battle.net?

I don't think there's any magical easy way. I could think that playing the game on your own pace and reading things for example here little by little is easiest. Reading first and playing then won't work, there's just too much stuff. Playing and then searching answers to questions that arise is probably more rewarding.

You're better off learning by asking lots of questions in this forum - sometimes you'll get referred to another forum for a more detailed answer, but lots of questions get handled right here.

Welcome!

Mod? Oh. That changes the way the game works, right?

Okay, I'll ask him to undo that change after dinner tonight. Funny, I don't know why he'd do that unless he was afraid I'd get discouraged otherwise.

I don't see why. All those items are inconvenient after a while. Still, its kind of sweet. I think I'll make him meatloaf for dinner tonight. Its his favorite.

Thank you.

Yes the guides can be very intimidating as can be the user manual. I suspect you're playing Single Player and not on Battlenet. The real fun begins when you are exposed to the world of online play via the Multiplayer/Battlenet option. Here's a suggestion: Set up a Bnet acct and log onto USEast server. My account name is 7y7, known as Knkers in the realm. Look me up evenings from 8PM-whenever. I'll be glad to give you some play tips and build ideas for your characters. I have piles of gear that you'll find helpful in getting started also. The nice thing about online learning is there is real-time chat so you can talk and ask questions rather quickly. Anyway look me up...

there are a number of other "newbie board browsers" on US east as well (myself, nolo, fahartle, boreal to name a few.) my account is evypooh3x where x=1-6, 3 is my main (ladder) account.

Yeah, you need to know FORTRAN if you are looking to catch Elgar online - I've never seen anyone change accounts so fast!

Welcome to the incredibly addictive game that is Diablo!!! You'll love it... I'd surely suggest hopping into online play (battle.net). I was pretty nervous jumping into online play for the first time as a complete and total newbie, but there are just too many bonuses to pass up (and go for the ladder, by the way). You can still password protect all your games if you don't want to play at the same time with others, but you won't have to mess with all (most) of the hacking/mod problems that happen in the single player game. Plus you can "mule" some of your cool items to other characters rather than just having to chunk them when you run out of room (there are great threads here about that). You can stock up on all the gems you find and trade them for suprisingly great items on the trade forums (you'll get better items trading for pgem stuff than you will in months of magic-find runs when you're first starting out). It's a brave new world!

P.S. Many, MANY thanks for the arreat's face Elgar! You da man!! Nolomite stubbornly refused to give me any suggestions for items he's looking for, but I'd be happy to keep a lookout for something on your wish list!

If you are playing single player, you should download ATMA to mule all the gear that you find. You can find it in the Single Player Forum, where many of the discussions are more specific to SP play. There are also great build guides to help get you started.

Can I have some meatloaf too?

np, nolos already given me 2 faces this ladder, one for my conc barb and one for my frenzy barb. seeing as i had no need for it (because of nolo) and i knew you played barbs, i told him to give it to you. My wish list is gernerally real hard to find items like maras. Although... summoning (necro) gc's would be nice :)

If it is single player, I find PlugY much better than atma it is a plug in that basically changes your stash to one that is automatically shared amongst all of your characters :)

Elgar - Great! I played a summonancer in SP ages ago, so that'll be one of the last builds I make again. If I find anything along those lines it's yours! Thanks again -- can't wait to slap that bad boy on and level him up!

P.S. to Slipperyjelly - many apologies for coopting your thread for non-relevant stuff. Hope you're having fun playing!

Welcome to the game but you should always start off Diablo2 in Battle.Net for better learning experience as there are usually other new players willing to play and learn with you as welll as experienced players to guide you.

If you know some people on cat... err battle.net, and a few people from this forum have offered to play with you, playing there would be a good choice. Otherwise, you'll eventually just get fed up with the pub idiots and leave. If you choose single player, this forum has a pretty detailed single player forum, and they can tell you everything you need to know. And to whoever said something negative about mods: Yeah, the ones that make 2309239239023 items drop when you kill a Fallen are bad, but not ALL of em are offbalanced like that. Although, mod playing is generally after you've played the normal game for a while and got bored with it, but aren't quite done with d2 yet, so that shouldn't be a problem anytime soon. ^^

Hi there, Slipperyjelly! Welcome to the game and these forums!

I introduced my girlfriend to Diablo II myself and now she is quite hooked. Nothing beats playing next to each other on two computers, apart from you-know-what of course. That's even the best part about it, that I can play this game together with someone I can always play you-know-what with as well.

SilverTnT: no offense, but I don't really agree with you, when you say that new players should start on Battle.net. When you have played Battle.net, the return to Single Player is a step hard to take, and SP is an experience you shouldn't miss. If only Battle.net was a place full of nice, intelligent and polite people, yeah, then I would probably feel the same. But the fact that it is filled with puberal, egocentrical and power hungry kiddo's does not make it an ideal place for newcomers, in my opinion. It is probably better to learn the ropes playing on your own (especially when you have a boyfriend who can help you) and using this forum, of course.

Oh, by the way, Slipperyjelly, about your remark about newbie guides: I have noticed the same. Lots of the guides found on this site, and the rest of the world wide web, are indeed specified for players with a certain amount of experience in the game. That is why I am working on a guide for "real newbies", since this game can indeed be quite overwhelming at the start. It is coming along nicely, and I hope to have finished it by next week, or the week after that. You'll certainly hear more about it soon.
