Is this a good shield?

Is this a good shield?

I have a Eth Kurast Shield, 4os natural. 231 Def, +45 All Res.

Would this make a good exile? Or would it be a waste of 2 HR's and an Ist?

Its for my 1 point smiter (Uber runner)

Re: Is this a good shield?

This is a great option for an Exile IMO. A Kurast shield has slightly higher requirements (level + str) and slightly less chance of blocking than a Sacred Targe (the ideal choice), but the Kurast has higher defense to make up for it. And all paladin elite shields does the same average smite damage.

Being a 1-pt smiter, you have probably maxed HS, and will be able to meet the requirements of the shield while maintaining max block quite easily.

And finding an eth @45 ST will be extremely hard (not to mention expensive).

People may snub it as far as trade value goes (the market demands eth Sacred Targes that are glitched via the Cube socketing recipe), but as a personal uber smiting shield... not bad. The market tends to be driven by PvP concerns. Find some Torches, and work the market from that angle.

Sacred Targe is the ideal Pally shield? I was under the impression that an Eth Vortex is best. I had an Eth Vortex Exile last ladder with 1900 Def <_<

Defense isn't everything (in fact I would never choose a decent item with high defense over a good item with low defense). But higher and faster blocking on a shield will save you some dex points (for max block), that can go into vitality. And the lesser str requirements on the ST will also save you some stat points, that can boost your vit. This will be even more important in PvP.

EDIT: Why would Vortex be better than ST? It has much higher level and str requirements, lesser and slower block and the same average smite damage. Only thing in favor of the Vortex is the higher defense and the higher durability - and neither of those are significant in PvM (IMO!).

Re: Is this a good shield?

Correct me if im wrong but i believe it occurs when you take a non-socketed Eth sacred targe and use the cube recipe:
1 Tal Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield --> Socketed Shield of same type
So it will apply the eth bonus twice (1nce in the beginning and 1nce from after the cube. Since it is basicaly applying previous attributes and on top of the new item attributes which are N amount of sockets and eth

Nah, there's a way of doing it which consists of a P topaz which doesn't socket, that much I know. Maybe yours works too though.

Tal, Amn, PRuby is correct for cube socketing a shield. The PTopaz (plus Tal and Thul) recipe is for body armor.

I thought I'd borrow this thread a bit instead of makin a new one, hope you don't mind :)

I'm bit of a noob when it coms to D2. Anyway is this good shield for trying to get sockets into? Or should I wait for something better? Looking to use diamonds in there to increase resistances.

I'm asuming cubing sockets can't be done since this is a rare shild, not normal. How about Larzuk, is 4 sockets quaranteed? I've read that he should give the max sockets available, and for sacred rondaches it should be 4. 4x19 + 32 = 108 all res, sound good to me.

Currently resistances are ~40-50 all, with a white grim shield with 52% res all.

correct. that shield is prolly junk =\ for a rare you'd want one with +combat skills and shimmering/scintillating mod as well as high automod resistances, but really just trade for a HoZ and up it.
