Is it worth starting to play online?

Is it worth starting to play online?

I love Diablo 2 + LOD, it's a great game. I've lost the CDs a while ago, but have been thinking of buying the battle chest. However I'm very concerned of all the cheating, botting and duping going on.

Is it as bad as people say? That almost all HRs are duped and blizzard are doing nothing to stop it and all the botters. Does it really influence ones playing to a great extent? Diablo 3 won't be around for at least a year and seeing as the reset has been done quite recently I could as well join the online fun.

I'm currently not aware of any amount of duping on ladder Europe, but a lot of people are botting. I'm banning botters and cheaters from these forums where I can catch them, in case they are trading here, but it's pretty hard to prove and I'm not going to act on mere suspicions.

If you play online, it is 100% different than it was 5 years ago. Basically you need to realize 4 things when playing online.

1. There is a lot of everything out there in the economy. It is hard to trade in game, but there are so many bots everything is available.

2. Prepare to get spammed if you make any game without a password. Every game will have at least 2-6 bots join and spam the heck out of your game.

3. At least 80% of all games created are from bots, and sometimes it is extremely hard to find a game that isn't a bot's game.

and the last thing I believe is the most depressing.
4. There are no longer real people running baal runs together anymore, there is always a bot teleporting and running for people. So no interaction and talking like in the old days when ladder just started.

They've shortened the ladder far too much.

It really depends on what type of player you are.

I've always enjoyed playing on Bnet simply because I enjoy trading. I usually just make a game to play in alone with a password.

I usually make a game online and with a password (as above) I also tend to annoy other players if I play online, as I tend to chat. >.<

So either alone or with a friend, that's the way to play for me. There are just way too many bots, esepecially once/if you get to hell and are high level, most of the rest are bots ):

I only go to public games when I want to duel or trade. When I trade, I set level difference so spambots can't enter my games.
