Is it really soloing?

If to rescue anya you teleport wildly down, tap anya, alt+f4
Rejoin and grab the potion
Teleport wildly down, get annoyed with the amount of monsters too close to anya, alt+f4
Repeat about 10 times
Finally manage to click on her, flux one last time
Collect the reward

So far I've done what I feel I can in good conscience consider soloing all of NM and hell with my sorc, yes it has involved some a lot of teleporting, but anywhere with CI monsters that needed killing (CS, clearing the staff putting spot in A2, high council, etc) I've killed them and completed every quest doing it.

So after that method of rescuing anya, can I still claim to have soloed every quest in NM/Hell (up to the point I'm at), or is that at some level comparable to leeching?

Well, technically, yes that is soloing, but it's not very gratifying. The quest doesn't mention anything about killing Frozenstien or the hoards of Gloams down there, just finding Anya and defrosting her.

I would think the point of true soloing would be the feeling of accomplishment you get afterwards. If you still feel like you accomplished something, then congrats.

4th option: "I shouldn't care what anyone thinks, my standards are my own. If I live through HC without the use of hacks and cheats, then Anya can be happy"

Oh, I care...if the side I voted for wasn't losing 4-1 I'd be out trying to kill Frozenstien (and more importantly the 829357 birdies that were killing my merc), but since everyone else voted the other way I feel fine about it.

Oh well, I got Nithalak so she got her vengence, even if the flunkie Nithalak appointed to guarding her still roams free.

Then I got the ancients with surprisingly little trouble, and Baal&co took one re-roll to make it so there weren't convic gloams in the throne, and that's that.

Mouse, you TOTALLY left out using Telekenisis to tap Anya. Don't go risking your sorc by standing on the same island as Frozenstein. OMG Noob! Now go rescue her the correct way.

haha! I'm sure I'm a noob myself, because I still crack up at every mention of that word.

The 2e option in the poll is a bit harsh, but I voted it anyway.

Joining/Leaving a world at will when it gets to difficult is not realy playing. If you cant take CI monsters, you should have considered a build with a little less synergies and two types of elemental damage.
Or not solo and party with at least one other player.

I have ~37 points invested in damage at the moment 20 orb 17 CM, and less at the time of the incident, I'm not sure that I could go less synergies than one point in icebolt ^_^

I could drop the ~40 points I have invested in assorted saftey related skills for a second tree, but then I wouldn't be able to get mad at slow barbs and teleport to the throne with no BO in protest (check the death thread in the coming week for updates on that strategy).

As for party play?
Pfft, I soloed plenty of areas with plenty of CIs the proper way, it's just that this game there was a particularily mean double boss pack both of mana burning birdies that kept trying to kill my merc rather successfully, and so I improvised.

Not that I'm trying to defend it, I know that it's not really soloing the quest myself, but so long as the two options are tied I'm going to keep telling myself that I soloed every quest in NM/Hell (and got a chant rush through normal).

As for Conner, I'll definitely have to do it that way next time...might save me a flux or 10.

Well, you werent sitting in a game for hours on end begging for someone to do the damn quest for you.........neither 1 or 2 fits really but regardless you did what was needed to be done.

As long as she gave you some horrible orb in return for rescuing her, I'm sure she feels the same way about you as she does everyone else.

Actually I find it HARDER to do quests w/o killing than to just go ahead and kill things.
