Is it possible to skip Hellforge quest?

...Just to go on with Meph's soulstone into the next difficulty and pick another one there or you won't be able to? This is kind of obvious, but I still want a confirmation. Sorry, if it is too lame for a first post,

Ah, sorry, I meant if you could take normal soulstone and use it on a nightmare hellforge, for example. Would Meph still give you the soulstone in NM if you had one from normal, would you be able to pick both of them and then use both on a NM hellforge?

You get a soulstone for every difficulty but you can only smash the normal soulstone in normal difficulty, nm in nm, hell in hell.

Right, the hellforge hammer disappears and Heph doesn't drop it again, does he? Well, thanks anyway. The idea of having two soulstones in the next difficulty thrilled me for a while, but now I'll have to go grab my El, it seems.

Heph will drop more hammers, that's not the issue. Meph/Cain will also drop more soulstones. A soulstone from Normal difficulty however will be useless in Nightmare or Hell. The game can tell what difficulty the stone was obtained from.

Don't be like that... You could get lucky and get a Tir, or a Nef :jig:

Hephaistos will drop the hammer if somebody in the game (who can already have the quest solved and doesn't even have to be partied) hasn't solved the HF quest yet and only these characters can pick it up. I'm quite sure about that, as I'm dragging along dummy charsacters when questing through the game, for extra HF runes+gems and socketing rewards and for having mules who can enter any difficulty.

BTW, if you drop a quest item from a higher difficulty in a lower difficulty game, and you already solved the according quest there, you can't pick it up anymore, so when it's to your disadvantage, the game sometimes cannot distinguish that :azn: It happened to me with the Horadric Staff while muling.

This is what I wanted to hear. Thanks to those who helped. If there was a way around this, someone would definetely find it out before me anyway, it seems. By the way, I'm in SP, so not sure if I can bring other characters into one game.
