Is HC primarily for PVM

Is hc primarily for pvm? i mean u could duel but most people wont because they might die. in sc people duel all the time, there is no risk for dying.

I play HC mainly for PvP :D The thrill of a HC duel is the whole reason I play this game and I know MANY who share this ;)

There are tons of 'Duel'-games but those are mostly people camping town :p But many players join who are serious duelers though you need to one hit them or they will chicken out. I usually have serious private duels.. You generally know the top layer of players after a while and many want to duel with competent players so you got duels often.

It's astonishing that people are willing to spend months of effort on a character only to let it be permanantly deleted from the game in less than a few secs...

Perhaps leveling is easy in D2, but that might not be the case for D3, it might take a few months to level a character to the mids.

It's all about the risk paired with the confidence of you being the better player :p

In LoD however that feeling is somewhat lost because it takes two days of solid gaming (8 hours each day) to get level 90 again. All the stuff you can trade on d2jsp so you're back in action before you know it ;)

In Classic it was a whole other story. Leveling there was actually a challenge and so what item finding :p

99% of HC dueling I've witnessed involved hacks. Sure, you can try to play legit, but in the end you lose to the cheaters.

So, if you're legit, HC is a grand place to play PvM. If not, you bot or cheat and probably don't care about playing the game.

There used to be a lot of dueling in HC before LOD and before 1.10..

And exactly why would they do this?
Well it was already much harder before LOD. I think they should go back to that direction but not a few months though. :p
I'd say like a week to 80 when you play like 5 hours a day. I don't want again 2 days to 90.. and then you wonder what to do..

I want more leveling up and less item hunting.

I guess I come from a different background, and only just having started playing Diablo 2, but... what's the fun in levelling if you level to 80 in 35 hours? I used to play an mmorpg (not WoW), where the highest players were like lvl 55 or so, and it took me maybe 300 hours to get to lvl 35.

I'm new at Diablo, so please bear with me. Do you level in Diablo so fast because you want to be able to try different builds many times? Or is there another reason? I'm curious.

That's part of it yes. Certainly when you remember that there aren't any respecs - and that some people don't want (full) respecs - there is a way to allow the creation of many different characters.

A second reason is that most people only play the end game. I myself don't like normal at all, nightmare starts to get OK. yet hell is where things are fun. So you don't want to spend 100 hours just to get to somewhere where it starts to get fun.

A third reason is because you need different builds for different situations. You need a sorcerer for mf on bosses, some sort of amazons for pits, an other sorcerer for key runes. And hammerdin for everywhere where the other builds can't go. A smiter for trist.
And then you need character for pvp.

Count in the fact that you will screw up some of the builds and that you will evolve your characters when you find better gear.

I'm not saying things are good now, yet several months just to be mid level doesn't work in diablo II and it probably won't work in diablo III.

And don't forget those players that only play casual. In the last year, I don't think I have played 300 hours. So I would have done noting in that system. Now I have tried 3 build and screwed over 1.
