Is Bone Magic Damage partially physical?

It seems like Bone Spear damage increases when used on Amplify Damage cursed critters but this could be my imagination. It's hard to tell with the golem and mercenary attacking at the same time.

amp increases the dmg done by any type of attack, magic, or physical.. elemental/poison LR is the curse you want to use.

Decrep is the best curse for any type of dmg IMO... course it won't remove elemental immunities.....

Amp reduces physical resist by 100%. Thus only physical dmg is increased in dmg when using Amp dmg.

The slow from Decrep seems to be the best part of this curse, and it reduces physical resist by 50% as well.

Right, that's the impression I had so... am I imagining things or does bone magic do partially physical damage? I remember reading in a description somewhere that the mixed physical/magic nature of bone spear allowed it to pierce through targets, but that looked more like fluff than actual game mechanics. Anybody know? Not too hard to test I guess, but I'll have to get my mercenary killed and attack something reasonably large solo w/out the golem to be sure. It's imprortant to me because if half the damage is physical, Amp Damage ought to be every bit as good of a curse under the right circumstances as LR, yes/no?

BONE DAMAGE IS NOT PHYSICAL. IT IS PURE MAGIC. Amp damage does not help it, nor does Lower resist anymore.

THANK YOU. SORRY, I SEARCHED BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING EXACTLY RELEVANT. Okay, so noobie question 2. What resists pure magic? Do diamond socketed shields and items that say they resist all do the trick or do those only cover the elemental magics? Just wondering what the PK potential of a bonemancer is. Seems like you could get 100% immunity to just about anything if you got the right items but I've read faqs that suggested bone magic was harder to resist against.

Resist all, despite the name, does not resist all :) It covers fire, cold, lightning and poison; it does not cover phyiscal or magic (I don't think there are other attack types in D2).

I think I remember seeing an item that did "resist magic", but I'm not sure.

Crafted Safety Shield

Magic Kite Shield/Dragon Shield/Monarch
Nef Rune
Perfect Emerald
Any Jewel

+ (10-30)% Enhanced Defense
Magic Resistance +(5-10)%
Magic Damage Reduced By (1-2)
Damage Reduced By (1-4)

This is the only shield that has magic resistance.

Thank ye sir! I'm starting to see why Bonemancers are feared in PvP. How the heck do Sorceresses get along in the higher levels anyway? It doesn't seem that hard to load up on elemental resistance.

And uh.. does anybody have any perfect diamonds and nice triple socket shields for trade? >:)

Well blessed hammer also magic based attack ...
Anyway related to topic the only way reduce damage from magic based attack is MDR items (dwarf star, vipermagi)

"Crescent Moon" Runeword has an insignificant amount of numerical Magic Absorb, too...
