    IRS check question

So, I was supposed to get my $600 IRS stimulus check deposited into my bank account electronically yesterday. I have direct deposit. The money is still not in there. Is there someone I can call or e-mail to figure out when that money is supposed to appear in my account?

And yes, I'm positive I'll be getting one. I filed a tax return, and I made $8500 last year.

    Re: IRS check question

The website is contradictory. First, it states:
"All you need to do is file a federal income tax return for 2007."

    Then, it states:
"You won’t get a stimulus payment in 2008, if any of the following apply to you: You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return (whether or not you actually are claimed as a dependent on someone else's return). For example, this would include a child or student who can be claimed on a parent’s return. [Updated 4/15/08]"

That latter is confusing, and if it means what I think it means, I'll be pissed off. From what that says, every college student in America got gypped from getting the rebate, because we all could have been claimed as a dependent by our parents.

The other way I see it is that I could not have been claimed as a dependent because I filed a tax return. I really need help from someone who understands this.

Maybe they put you on the ARS stimulus program instead.

    Re: IRS check question

I failed 3 and 4, although 3 is confusing in and of itself. I don't know if I was technically away because of Education. I have my own lease on a rented house. As far as 4 goes, he doesn't pay for any of my education. So, by that fact alone he cannot claim me as a dependent. Right?

The phone number given above is automated only. I guess I'll have to call them on Monday to get a concrete answer? I'd rather figure this out now, though.

    Re: IRS check question

If your parents don't give you any money for anything, then I don't think you qualify as a dependent. Are you sure you were supposed to have received your refund by now?

I had direct deposit for my return, and my last two digits of my SSN was between 90-99, so the last day to get it should have been Friday, May 16th. Is it possible it's just late and I'll get it on the next business day, Monday?

I think it's as simple as either your parents claimed you or they didn't. Ask them.

    Re: IRS check question

It's possible. This is the federal government we're talking about. Or maybe it went into your account right at the end of the day and it hasn't shown up on your bank statement or something. I'd at least wait until Monday to figure out what's up.

I'm working on that, too, although I doubt they did. My mother never has, and my father told me he wouldn't.

I think it has to do with eligibility, and it doesn't matter if you were actually claimed or not.

    Re: IRS check question

It looks like the federals are being fast and loose with the qualifications as I know of at least two people who didn't meet the requirements exactly for different reasons and still received some loot. How's that for a scientific study?

With my awesome powers of deduction, your check will be deposited on Monday at 0730 CDT - give or take 10 minutes.

Don't you think people should choose their own party affiliation rather than have their parents do it for them? Helicopter parenting really has gone too far.

How does giving people money so they can spend them on imported eletronics help the economy?

I and the wife got about 400 of the 1600 as we made to much money apparently.

How come stuff like this tells me I should be rich and I don't see myself that way?

It doesn't. I don't plan on spending my money for the economy. Savings here we come.

    Re: IRS check question

I was claimed as a dependent by my mother. She recieved her 600 dollar check, which didn't include the 300 dollar credit for me. I didn't get a check. What's up with that? One of us should have got some money for me.
