Iron Golem, usefull?

Iron Golem, usefull?

How viable is a Iron Golem is hell? I feel like this is one of those godly skills out there but not being used a lot.

Its for a pure PVM summoner. Will it have enough life? Dont want it to die since its like a merc in hardcore, only where u cant buy the merc back, he really died ><.

First setup:

Myself: Beast
Merc: Infinity/Might
Iron Golem: Lawbringer (Sanctuary aura)

If all works out like planned, the Iron Golem is pretty strong by himself, i could give him a Pride.

I know i must be very carefull about where he is at the screen. Would that make it not worth it? Or just stick with a cheap low insight:laughing:

If you use CE, I think insight would be nice. If you have a nigma, go for the lawbringer though. You can just tele everywhere.

Very useful if you're willing to forgo the use of Gumby (Clay Golem) and Ol' Sparky (Fire Golem). I use Fire Golem on my Fishymancer about 95% of the time to attract enemies toward my blob and to keep enemies off of my Necro and Clay Golem vs. bosses. I haven't made the sacrifice, but I can see how one would reap the benefits.. I think you're right on the money thinking about the utility of the Iron Golem supplementing the rest of the party. Just as a Merc is a party player, you can make your Golem one too.

These seem to be popular uses for Iron Golems:

1. Additional Crushing Blow. Make IG out of an IK maul, Crushflange, Bonesnap, or other CB weapon. Useful for running against bosses.
2. "Insight" golem. Voulge/Scythe "Insight" --> IG --> limitless mana for CE and teleporting.
3. "Pride" Golem as you mentioned. I can't even begin to imagine how deadly your Skeletons would be... Sick.

When using an Iron Golem made out of an expensive item, I think it's customary to max Golem Mastery so your IG will have a lot of life. You'd probably want to be careful about running certain areas like Chaos Sanctuary and WSK3, where Iron Maiden might hurt the IG.

Using the Necro Pet Calculator that is often linked to in this forum, I put 20 points into Golem Mastery, 1 into Iron Golem, added +10 from items (a modest amount, I think), and the resultant Iron Golem has 6860 life. Maybe it's not a 40K+ Clay Golem, but he sounds quite buff to me. Oh, and after playing with the calc a little more, it looks like the Blood Golem life synergy doesn't add that much more life to the Iron Golem. Just another 1K if you invest 20 points into Blood Golem. So the points are better invested into Golem Mastery for an additional 3K life to the Iron Golem at least, and you will probably get even more than that.

Re: Iron Golem, usefull?

I tried lawbringer. It is fun and I like stun locking Oblivion Knights in WSK. However I knew I would not be satisfied until I went to the peak performance by using Pride. Check out the near perfect roll (4% AR off perfect)

Thus pride IG is now born!

Let me say this, I normally solo MF in Wsk1-3 and baal in 8 player games and with Pride IG it is like i'm playing in a 1-2 player game. Once you try it you cannot go back. It just seems so much slower.

I'm playing a little more hesitantly though, I'm just scared to accidently die. In the past, my IG never gets killed unless I die by teleporting into an ugly mess.

Maphack. :/
Funny. Thumbs down for the maphack but nothing about the obvious duperunes.

Man, I'd love to have one of these auramancers on the ladder. Beast, Pride, etc,etc...drool.

I dispense my wrath in small, controlled doses where they're needed.

Actually, I was thinking of including comments on possibly duped runes, but I'm a little tired right now. You can do a lot with very little in this game if you know how. Maphack, duped runes, etc. not required, even if 99% of the Bnet populace can't imagine it so. I also leave the possibility that some of the HRs are legit and the resulting rune words could be. That's part of the unspoken understanding and agreement on the site, except when it's clear that to make certain builds requires a couple lifetime's worth of work to make such runes/rune words (<cough> "Last Wish," Zods, etc. </cough>).

Where do I buy maiku in a bottle? When i'm feeling a bit too giddy i'll have to take a shot of your small dose ;p

Well if it helps, the Io in the pride was self-found. :))))) lol

Without trading I wouldn't have most of my equipment. From the Trang gloves to Aokl, to marrowwalks and yes runes were all traded for.

To answer the title of the topic - yes, the IG is damn useful. Can't argue with yet another aura for your army of doom, right?

It is _very_ durable. The only way it'll die is if you make it out of some high-damage weapon and it gets IM'ed. That's with just 1 point in IG and golem mastery (and of course the reasonably common 12-13+ to all skills which everyone seems to have..)

Whenever I'm running Nihlathak the poison from those vipers sometimes take out my - otherwise very reliable - merc even though he has max poison res. (I know the poison is 50% physical damage.. but still..) The IG? Doesn't really care about it, it seems.

clsi: nice IG - grats
