Iron Golem questions

1) Does an Iron Golem benefit from being made from a runeword item, or an item with jewels/gems in it?

2) I'm at the point where I have one point each in Iron and Fire (+5 skills from spirit broadsword, Sigon's shield, and +2 summoning amulet). Am I better off with an Iron Golem made from a powerful unique or rare* or should I just use fire?

* Powerful meaning lots of useful golemy mods like enhanced damage, enhanced defense, life bonus, resists, regardless of whether the item itself would be useful for a character (like having 100% enhanced damage on a dirk, not so great)

Quick edit: I am only level 33 if it matters.

Re: Iron Golem questions

1. Yes

2. why would you want to use fireG in the first place? It's strictly for pvp poison necromancers. At this point I'd suggest using clay golem. It's slow and decrepify paralyze monsters quickly.

Re: Iron Golem questions

I guess I just assumed that it was a higher level summon, there had to be something "better" about it.

I'm basically playing a fishymancer, and feel like eventually I should be maxing out one of my golems, but I can't figure out which.

Re: Iron Golem questions

Don't max the golem. Max the mastery instead. It doesn't gain too much life if at all (xpt clay but still) I LOVE The clay golem because around 50% slow down it's hilarious with Reaper's Toll specially with the cold length. They litterally are almost paralyzed. Since your a fishymancer like build Clay is probly the best for a tank. You don't need more damage dealers. Just that clay golem and try to get bosses to focus on it (ie casting it on the boss and laughing as it falls for the trap)

But, your only lv 33. Experiment. You have respecs now so it's not the end of the world if you mess up.

Re: Iron Golem questions

Any shield recommendations while I've got you here (besides the eventual 4 socket monarch to make Spirit)? Right now I'm using Sigon's shield and belt, but I'm considering putting a goldwrap on for the MF. If I'm going to do that, I figure I should entertain other shield ideas that will last me through nightmare and into hell, hopefully that I can equip in the next 7 levels or so.

Re: Iron Golem questions

A Spirit shield would last you in hell difficulty already. I have on on my Summoner Nec. It's good if you teleport because of the FCR. The mana and vitality boosts are also nice. I never focused on blocking. I found higher HP to be more helpful for that sort of build.

The problem is finding the 4 slot shield to make Spirit in. I have basically nothing of value to trade. other than p. gems.

Re: Iron Golem questions

Well you could use Homonculus in the meantime. It's my favorite shield of all. Here are stats if you don't know them.

Homonculus
Hierophant Trophy
Def 186
Chance to Block 72%
Durab: 20/20
(Nec only)
req str 54
req lv 42
+2 Curses
+2 Necro Skills
30% fbr b is block
40% increased block rate
163% EDefense
+20 Energy
Regen Mana 33%
Resist All +40%
+5 mana after each kill

Only 9 lvs sorry not 7 but hey, its really good and worth it ;)

To be honest spirit isnt really needed on a Summoner and homunculus is better in nearly all ways.

ikr >.<

But still, it's his char. He can do whatever he thinks is necessary. Sides with Homon you can get 75% block easy (221.25 dex points at lv 99)
