Introductions and other trivialities

Good day, genteel players of Diablo 2 !! Do pardon my rude entrance to these boards without introducing myself ! I am Gabriel Syme, having just come from Saffron Park, London, 1904... oh wait.......

(5 eurocents to anyone who knows where my nick comes from. ANd no, even though it's IN a game, it's not FROM a game)

~

But yes. I'm not new to Diablo 2 ( Iplayed it nuymnerous times), but I have just bought the game... and I'm new to the world of serious Diablo 2 playing (as in, developing a character seriously). For one thing: I'm still a newbie when it comes to some of the terms used.(things like 'ias' and the like)

~

I currently am trying to play all 7 characters of the game, developing various builds (though I intend to replay my amazon and paladin since they're lousy builds now), and take all of them to Hell (that sounds rude) Aside from that, I would love to know how to better improve my gameplay during my time around here !

welcome, mister wednesday...no, friday was it?...no wait...ah, thursday it is!

you can find nice guides in each of the various strategy forums devoted to the each particular class. what i find best to do is to plot out everything from skill points to equipment to stat points in advance so i don't have to restart. this is of coursed based on sets/uniques/runewords/anni/etc. that are listed at the arreat summit. should i find a nice rare, then i would have to weigh the benefits of restarting a char to accomodate the rare.

That only works if you have the gear to plan your character around.

I would also point you to the class forums and look at the guides. Choose a few you find interesting, and try playing them.

oh, i should note that i carry around +str and +dex charms, as well as equipment socketed with amethysts. i go through this hassle to make up for the stat points needed on top of my ideal setup in order to equip some gear i have at the moment. i also plan out gear that i think i can realistically acquire so that when i do obtain that gear i won't have "wasted" points in strength and dex, i.e. i won't feel the compulsion to restart. for example, i think occy/shako/tal's armor/tal's ammy/tal's belt/war travs is reasonably acquireable in realm play and would plan a starting mf sorc around that. single player is a different matter. not totally undoable, but it takes a bit more time, especially the tal's armor. if you are playing on realm, the occy, shako, tal's belt and low war travs are all within pgem reach. just save those flawless gems and cube them up. tal's ammy and tal's armor are obtainable with the fruits of some forge drops and or the fruits of cubing your own skill charms with the purpose of trading them. from my own experience, whenever i start out with nothing again, i can usually acquire a mf sorc set up within a week or two. you can start out by hunting norm meph for the decent low level gear with partial set mf bonuses, such as partial angelic set and partial sigons off the top of my head. this is what i do to start climbing the ladder to wealth. others might do things differently. and others might be content playing without any unique items at all. it's all up to you. by the way, for start up equipment, check out the trading forums. usually people will either give it to you for free, or for just a mediocre amount of gems. if you are on us east, i can help you out with some gear.

By jove ! I fellow anarchist !! I must report this to the Soctland Yard !! (Or UNATCO) And 5 eurocents go to you for actually kinowing where my name came from.....

That's a good idea actually, especially sicne it's what I considered doing. Problem is, I started before 1.10, so, some of my current builds, which don't use synergies, are going to have prolems. Thankfully, I haven't played the necromancer, barbarian and assasin yet, so I'm going to plan out goo builds for these three.

~

Btw: good on you for guessing the reference. Did you read the book, or play the game where the book was mentioned ? Or both ? (which is, of course, the best)

hello, i will decline the 5 eurocents for reasons that will soon become quite apparent, quite. you forgot a third option: a two second google search of "gabriel syme" revealed the answer to your challenge immediately! however, it does sound like an interesting read and i will look into it someday. at the moment, my schoolwork beckons.

(i should note that anarchism did intrigue me at a younger age. but when i try to explain the theory to myself out loud, anarchosyndicalism does sound more than a bit far-fetched...having said that, i'm not too thrilled with capitalism either and i am always suspicious of the state...)
