Introduction

Hi all, I thought I'd just introduce myself, being as I only bought the game today and I am very new to the RPG genre. :)

I only started playing RPG's this week, and am totally fascinated with them. I have just spent about 2 hours playing around with 'Lord of Destruction' and so far I'm enjoying it immensley.

I think it's a great idea you have here in setting up a Newcomers Forum, I'm sure I will be making plenty of visits here in the very near future. ;)

Welcome !

I strongly suggest to play your very first one or two characters all alone or with friends who know as little about the game as you, with no help from anybody, no matter how well-meant our advice here might be. The game was most fun for me when everything was new.

Don't think too long when you have to decide which skills your character should learn, where to spend your stats points or which equipment to use. Simply do it as you like. Your first one or two characters will surely not survive in the highest difficulty mode (hell mode), but at your stage the point is enjoying the story (yes, some people here might have forgotten there is one). Later you can concentrate on the depths of the way the game works, read the vast amount of secondary literature found everywhere and make up a strategy - you definitely need one if you want to be successful in hell mode.

Have fun with the game and good luck !!

Thanks for the replies guys, I am just wandering around, playing the game solo and struggling to complete the 2nd quest at the moment.

One thing that's confusing me though is that when I completed the 1st quest, the Boss lady (sorry, forgot her name), said my reward was to select my own training! Well, so far, I haven't worked out how you do that.

Anyway, so far I'm having fun, despite having been killed 5 times  , anyway, I think I may have time for another hour our two tonight. :)

She gives you an extra Skill Point to spend. Usually you only get one when you level up, but one is given to you as a reward for that quest.

Welcome. I also suggest that you play the game without help from other people experienced. I started playing with my friend who was not very experienced, I think he thought he was more experienced than he actually was. We had a tough time but it was fun playing. I think you will find the game is more fun if you play through single player with a few different characters, placing your own skill and stat points instead of following guides. Then once you get more experienced and want to go on b.net you can follow guides to make better chars that can survive through hell.

GIR: thanks for that, it had me thinking I was stupidly missing something obvious, which I was! :uhhuh:
It happens. There's a lot of things you won't know at first, just pay attention when you complete a quest, and you'll learn, just like with any other game.
