Insight CV Problem

Insight CV Problem

Hi all. So I was pleased last night to find a 4 socket CV, and I figured I'd make an Insight for my Holy Freeze merc (I'm an 83 Blizzard Sorc). Well unfortunately I didn't look at the strength requirements for the CV before using the runes (not as if they're expensive), and my merc, who is also level 83, is still fifteen levels too low to use it (He has 181 str, gains 2 per level, and the CV requires 210). I don't know if this is a common problem remedied by +str gear, or whether I messed up somewhere along the way.

Any and all help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I used a 3socket helm with Perf Amethysts in it. I think I still have the helm if you need it. It should take you to the 210 str mark.

*Rhiana

Edit: Gris armor with one Amethyst works as well, if you have it.

Thanks for the replies. I feel sort of stupid for getting all excited about this CV I found without even realizing that my merc couldn't use it until level 98 (like that's going to happen...). I'll try to procure some armor to boost his str, and I'll message you (Rhiana) in game tonight, after work, when I get on.

Again, thanks for the speedy replies.

I think everyone has the same problem really. As mentioned there is the P amethyst route but there are also a number of normal/exceptional uniques that give +strength.

For helms:
the face of horror (20)

For armours:
twitchthroe (10)
rockfleece (5)
spirit forge (15 & two sockets)
duriel's shell (15 and my personal favourite)
toothrow (10)
black hades (three sockets)
corpsemourn (8)

Thanks Nullvoid. Off to run Baal and see if I can find any of this stuff, or if I can at least get some tradeable items. Meditation is too tempting haha.

At lvl 83 Andy's gives a nice +25 Strenght and it's a very nice helm for a merc.

Your level 83 level up some more (you should easily be able to hit 88ish before the grind starts to wear on you) and than buy a new merc it will reduce the amount of strength needed.

Re: Insight CV Problem

I always thought that buying a merc later meant that his stats would be lower than if you had leveled him up all the way? I could be horribly mistaken, but that's just what I've heard/read.

I'll look into all these +str items though for sure. Is this a common CV problem? I hear everyone talking about/trading their Insight CV's, so it never hit me to check and see if my merc could equip it haha.

Thanks again all.

This is how most people equip CVs, since andy's is pretty much THE helm of choice for mercs using Colossus Voulges.

Most people want Vamp Gaze/shaftstop combo though, and so they make Insight in something other than a colossus voulge. Too bad you already made it, although the runes for insight are fairly cheap.

I had the same problem when I first got mine.

Andariel's Visage is definitely the way to go though. +25 Strength at least as well as life steal and IAS. The only down side is that it lower's your merc's fire resist, so people tend to socket them with a Ral rune to counter-act this.

People covet Ethereal CVs like crazy though, since they only require 200 strength which is possible to get at level 91 without and +str gear.

Seeing all these members suggesting Andy's, I have to admit Andy's a very good choice because of the str and LL and such, but if you are trying to be cheap, I would also suggest some other alternatives that costs less, such as Nat's helm. it gives good + str to help you use that CV. or if you want, you can just attempt to find a 3 socket helm and just put all kinds of +str jewels or runes or PGems in there.

Well, as good a choice as Andy's visage is, it's not the only one.

Guillame's Face gives +15 Str, in addition to the very nice Crushing Blow and other stats. No LL, but it's much much cheaper than Andy's. That means you'd only need to be level 91, which is much more obtainable than 96...

What I don't understand is my merc is uing a CV insight that's str req is only 200, so I'm good to go with Guillame's at 86... :scratchchin:

You probably hired your merc in normal difficulty. Normal ones get higher stats than nightmare or hell ones.

And the str/level calculation of the ts is also not correct. A merc hired in NM act 2 has the required 200 str at around level 93 or 94.

Re: Insight CV Problem

I found a Leviathan today, which gives +40 strength as well as having %DR. Now my merc can use his CV and Gaze for a total of 44% damage reduction as well as life steal.

I don't know how cheap it would be but keep your eye out for one.

Thanks all for all the help. I'll definitely keep my eye out for Andy's or Guillame's, or any of the +str armors mentioned. Found an Um rune during the waves on hell Ball last night, so a trade may be in order.

Be well everybody.

Re: Insight CV Problem

Sorry to go a bit off-topic but why aren't threshers and giant threshers a more popular choice to put Insight in? Does their extra speed not make up for the loss in damage?

Re: Insight CV Problem

Colossus Voulges are the only elite polearms to automatically get 4sockets from the Larzuk socket quest. Threshers get 5, Giant Threshers get 6.

Therefore, many people just quest until they find their first white colossus voulge, then immediately take it to larzuk, get 4 sockets, and put insight in it. It's the fastest way to get an elite Insight polearm.

I know that since it's what I've always done as well. :)

I was just thinking, in an ideal world would an insight made in an ethereal thresher (or giant thresher for that matter) be better than an ethereal CV? Does the extra speed make up for a drop in max damage?

That is what i have in my merc, i found an ethereal thresher and made the cube recipe to get some holes in it, i was lucky to get 4. My merc uses now Etheral Crown of Thieves, Etheral buged Stone. i have 2.2k DMG accordin to is chart. Now i am thinking what is the bes option: put a Um rune (or resist jewel) on the helm (it haves a nice 430 def plus 10LL) or get a Vamp Gaze for Dmg reduction. He has 18k defense with defianse aura on.

You can try to trade for a eth trasher and use the cube recipe, you have 1/6 chance of gettin 4 holes tho.
