Hi, welcome to economy 101.

Your first task is to go find ANY economic system that is not affected by inflation. Note, there isnt one.

If you are just a kid (14-16) which im guessing from your verbage...then I applaud you on making this discovery on your own. If you are over age 17, and are just now figuring out about inflation...your an idiot, wake up, look around.

By world you mean, the real world? or diablo?

And by losing it all you mean....well, I really dont know wtf you mean. Hackers and dupers in no way put anyone at the risk of losing it all in either the real world or the diablo world.

That's funny... I always thought inflation was an INCREASE in price. But regardless of your definition, this is bound to happen. The longer that the game is played, the higher the supply of items, which in turn lowers the value.

Inflation is a double edged sword, most people dont think about this. As one thing increases in value, others decrease...

Example...as the currect price of gasoline increases in value, the dollar used to pay for it is decreasing in value. Meaning you cant buy as much for your dollar.

You should realize that video games (especially Diablo II/bnet) are an extension of society. Anything that can be applied to the "real" world can be applied to the world of D2.

His comments were actually quite profound I thought. I think your insults are uncalled for.

Ehehe.. you're saying that by the time you're 17 you'll be doing something way more mature than playing video games? :uhhuh:

I guess you missed the "how old are you"-poll. Even though it wasn't a very good average bnet-player pick, it clearly stated that most of us in the forums are in fact over 17 yo. (And I'm guessing most of us play d2)

maturity does not equal no game play. its just the opposite...

but for inflation, it is inevitable. I mean people are constantly mfin, and these items are not disappearing. so obviously there is gonna be a surplus of them soon enough.

kudos on finding this out on your own. and if you are interesting in it take an economics or some business classes. theres lots ot be learned.

This isn't directed at only you, disco, but it's more supply and demand and less inflation. The demand for runes is high, the price is high. The demand shifts away from things like Tal's Armor/Shako. The price goes down. The supply of those unwanted items goes down as well. As items become relatively more worthless, people won't pick them up anymore. Accounts and characters get deleted every day. People lose items in transfer games. The amount of a certain unwanted item can actually go down. How many Death's Belts do you see? Tancreds Boots?

The good thing about this is when supply decreases, price increases. I have seen people willing to fork out a lot for a Deaths Belt simply because they and nobody else has one. Deaths Belt will of course never become a high value item due to Demand, but at least Supply keeps it and other items hanging in there. All the rest are inbetween.

Inflation is an increase in the general price level. D2 does experience inflation due to the fact that people MF and find better items and MF more successfully and create wealth. Its like people getting raises. They now have a lot to spend on what they want. When you want that item and that spammer in the trade channel is offering more than you, you're not gonna get that trade. The price goes up.

I actually stopped playing video games for a short while between like 15-17 (started back on vectex/Atari 2600 when I was still a young lad) then started up again when I started dating this girl who was a gaming junkie.. now I'm going to school for Game Art & Design.

It's a life-long love affair.

That's cool where are you going? You don't have to tell if you don't want to. I go to DigiPen.

I was going to the Art Institute in SF for Visual & Game Programming but I'm transferring to the one in Chicago for GAD this summer.

I figure, by the time I graduate and work through some small company for resume-filler, I can hopefully hop on board at Blizz for D3
