immortal Duriel??

I have just recently taken my Frost Zealot Paladin, named Paul_Adin, into nightmare level, and doing pretty well. He is now at Act 2 and trying dispatch Duriel. He is holding his own in melee except of course Duriel now is immune to my cold attacks. Using the same tactics of dealing some damage, exiting by TP,healing, and return to pound Duriel some more.

However, every time I return to continue attacking, Duriel has healed up to 100%!!! Whatt????

Is this supposed to happen in Nightmare level to end bosses, along with their other added immunities and powers?

Thanks

bosses and some other monsters have healing mod, so if you attack them go away for a while they have maybe healed back when you return, this can be prevented by equipping a item that has ''prevent monster heal'', so get that kind of item pound away and then he cant heal back

AFAIK, act bosses don't regenerate when all players are dead. I'm quite sure because I normally solo my characters through nearly anything and sometimes it involves dying a dozen times when fighting Duriel. Perhaps they only regenerate when somebody in the game is alive, but nobody is facing him. Try fighting until you are dead, keeping your gold in a pile in town (not in your stash) and snatching your equipment when coming back.

If you actually care about your gold, then don't keep it in town for too long --- it will time out rather quickly.

Better mule off your gold if your strategy is built on dieing.

You can pick up your gold from time to time, of course. And when your strategy involves a lot of dying, it might involve using a lot of potions and tp scrolls and you might need money to buy that (or buy it in advance). Having no money at all is quite a nuisance.

Three tips on fighting Duriel; Don't use cold attacks, raise your cold resistance, and don't die.

Drink several thawing potions. Your cold resistance goes up by a lot. If any is available at this point, use crushing blow (from crushflange or something). If you're level 21 and have a General's Tan Do Li Ga, use that after you get his health down to about half, as thats where crushing blow starts to lose effectiveness. It will make him very slow, and costs almost nothing. Always have your merc alive. You'll want one who can tank for you, rather than shoot arrows as you're dying. Keep him alive with potions.

You've got holy fire as a prerequisite, so try that if cold does not appear to be working. Do not, however, switch to resist cold. You'll have thawing potions, and those will last longer than your merc can, and you'll be sacrificing what little damage you can pump out of a low holy fire. If you can, shop a +holy fire scepter in town, but don't bother taking forever on this, as you probably won't need it.

Make sure you've got tp on a hotkey and cast one the moment you return so all you have to do when your merc goes down and you're dying is run. If you can't get prevent monster heal, don't take more time in town than absolutely necessary. Buy a whole bunch of potions (health, thawing, and mana if you have no mana leech) at the start and drop them near the tp so all you need to do is run to Greiz and ressurrect your mercenary and talk to Fara for half a second before going back to fight Duriel. He'll die, eventually. My frost zealot managed him at level 19 with a crushflange and defiance merc, after about 5 trips back to town.

He's Dead

Thanks for the replies. I did finally down him after I took my merc with a prevent heal fork. The merc got a few licks in and died, but Duriel stopped healing after that. I killed him after a long melee fight and a few trips back to town for health.

I am now level 56 in nightmare getting ready in a while to take on Diablo in Act 4.

Side Note

Not completely sure, but I think ...

1. Duriel has demonic freeze aura, so your cold resistence is futile.

2. Your holy freeze aura damages Duriel, he can't negate it, but the damage might be too low and his regeneration too fast, for it to make any difference.

3. 'Prevent monster heal' mod will work, when you are in the same area with Duriel. Once you take a TP to town, he will be able to regenerate health again.

Cold resistance is futile in staying unfrozen, but his damage is still partially cold damage, and thus it will keep you from dying quite as fast.

Extracted from bnet :

Duriel uses an Aura similar to the Paladin's Holy Freeze. While the Aura appears to be a Cold Damage Aura, Cold Damage Resistances and "Cannot Be Frozen" will offer no protection from Duriel's Aura.

there's a new topic button at the top left hand of this forum. but to get the leg, you have to click on wirt's body. it's a corpse at the top left hand corner in tristiam.

one way to fight duriel is to not fight him at all. you complete the quest by talking to whatever that angel's name is, not by killing duriel. so if i'm having a hard time with a new character, i fetch my sorc, kill him, then switch back.

no sir, it still keeps working. at least with dc that is. why would it be different with duriel (even if he is the lamest of them all)

edit: just noticed you said your merc used the prevent monster heal fork? in that case it didn't work at all, pmh does NOT(!) work on mercs. So it was all willpower :)
