    Imbuing?

How exactly does this work. If I took this pretty amazing shield to be imbued, would the base stats remain intact, or are they rerolled?

    Superior Zakarum Shield
    Defense: 223
    Chance to Block: 52%
    Smite Damage: 46 to 46
    Durability: 46 of 65
    (Paladin Only)
    Required Strength: 142
    Required Level: 61
    Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
    Item Level: 82
    Fingerprint: 0x31eabfc4
    +15% Enhanced Defense
    All Resistances +44

    Don't.

The only thing that imbuing retains is the base item type (Zakarum Shield). It doesn't "change" your item really, it destroys it and creates a brand new rare item of the same type, with ilvl = your clvl+4.

Pfft. So an already not so useful quest reward is rendered even less useful. What about if I add sockets to it?

You mean to your shield? You'll get 4 from Larzuk. You can't use the cube recipe to socket a Superior item.

4 no matter what? Well, that kills the purpose anyway. But, let's say I wanted four sockets, would the 44 all resists and 15% enhanced defense stay?

The socket quest won't change the shield, so if you wanted max (4) sockets, you could use that.

4 perf diamonds in that shield, with the 44 resist all, would be +140 resist all... that, plus the 3 quest rewards would get you to almost max resists in Hell.

Edit: Wait, I'm wrong. PDiamonds are only 19% not 24%, so 4x19 = 76, +44 = 120 resists. Still quite good, but not quite so high

Circlets/Coronets/Tiaras/Diadems are nice to imbue because you are guarenteed a rare. IMO...

That shield would have made a kickass Spirit runeword on the Realms

All items imbued are gaurenteed to be rare. Circlets and their kin are good to imbue because you can actually get a useful rare out of them. Some people also lean towards imbuing etheral crystal swords/dimensional blades, because once upgraded they will become an indestructable etheral phase blade.

For all items that come with staff mods such as staves, sceptres, pally shields, orbs, necro heads, druid helms, wands, barb helms etc.. The staff mods will be rerolled with the imbue, so if you find that nice white orb with +3 blizzard and +3 cold mastery theres no point imbuing it since the staff mods will be rerolled.

Also with that shield an imbue would not be possible since it is superior.

You're better off imbueing diadems. Because of their higher ilvl (thats not the right *lvl but I can't remember which one it is) they can get +2 to skills no matter what lvl character you use to do the imbueing.

That's what I do with all my white diadems; rush a character to lvl 8 and do the hammer quest, imbue, hey presto - a nice diadem. Well that's the plan anyway, I'm yet to get anything decent
