I'm trying to make Insight.

Hello guys, I'm trying to make Insight for a merc.

I just need to know what act 2 merc (Normal, Nightmare, or Hell) should I use?

And what's the best way of trying to get a 4 socketed polearm?

Which merc: Depends on your character. For a melee/Missile character I prefer a nightmare offensive merc (might aura), else a nightmare defensive one (holy freeze).

Which polearm: Depends on the rest of the equipment of your merc. Either a cryptic axe (damage) or a thresher (speed). The problem with these two weapons is that Larzuk will give them more than 4 sockets which only leaves the cube recipe, with a 1 in 6 chance to produce a 4 socket one, apart from finding one with the correct number of sockets. If you get impatient with the polearm, get an eth CV which will be significantly easier to obtain. Larzuk will add 4 sockets, but that weapon has a str req of 200 which might be too much for a merc with a rather low level.

For a hammerdin I would take a holy freeze merc (nightmare defensive).

If you want to find a CV yourself, visit crowded areas in hell mode, like the Flayer Jungle, CS or cows. If you want to buy one: In Europe they are worth about an Um rune.

BTW, Insight needs very inexpensive runes, so if you need one at lower levels, make one out of the first halfway decent 4 socket polearm your merc can wield.

Also consider an Act 2 normal combat merc, Prayer aura. You'll have twice the life regen of a single Prayer aura. You'll have the normal Prayer aura active, and also Prayer's synergy to Meditation active too, resulting in double the life regen.

Despite what you might think, the life regen IS actually noticable. Very noticable. Noticable enough to make you stop using healing potions for good. Almost.

With redemption, a one-point wonder, a hammerdin will insta-heal from the various corpses he produces all around him, so I think HF is more useful.

Yup, I use that quite alot.

That's what I do, and I barely ever use potions anymore.

I used a Partizan last time I made one, and the damage is pretty good, though I wish the thing was ethereal.

Also, HF merc is good for Hammdins, though they don't benefit nearly as much as a melee character.
