So, you're going to assume the guy that posts on the newbie forum has a Crown of Ages ON HIS MERC that's he's trying to socket with a pair of Ber runes, just so you can jump on the other side of the argument from me.

Thanks for being clear on that.

Again, have a nice day.
No, I'm not going to assume anything. I'm not going to draw conclusions based on two and a half lines of text that the thread-starter wrote, where he didn't mention anything about the placement of the item, nor where he got the items, nor why has the items, nor any third-party programs he is using.

Maybe he is using MH, and maybe it's just on a merc. You and I don't know which it is, and therefore it's not safe to assume that he's posting about using hacks, which is what you're doing.

There are a huge number of ways you could've obtained that CoA and Bers. Maybe he's not a newbie at all, but didn't know where to post this question? Maybe a friend gave it to him? Maybe he just got very lucky in MFing and a few trades. I've seen all of those happen before. And as long as my merc meets the necessary requirements, I would never even think of dressing him/her more poorly than myself, even when I was starting on a new realm or on the ladder (which has happened to me several times in the past few months).

Yu've been very clear on where you stand on this issue, per the above quote. It was that little tidbit that set off my righteous indignation - not anything Diabolico said (but he has since picked up the torch). By offering up this vague comment (yes, I know you said 'most' and not 'all') you've lumped me and my friends, who all play legit, into the mass of Bnetters that includes a large number of cheaters
I never said that you used MH... And if you read my posts you will see that I also wrote Quote :

I dont doubt that a lot of the top posters here dont use it, but I bet a lot of the ppl that flight in and out of the forums do.
A lot of ppl here are not regulars, u will see some ppl here for a few months then they will part separate ways. Look how many visitors there are - usually there are like 2-3 ppl in the forums who are members, and like 20-30 guests, I was referring to them - the majority. Not us - the minority.

also - how do u know that MH doesnt let u socket items, since u apparently have 'never' used it... how can u even comment? All you could really write is I have heard that if u use MH that u cannot socket items.

And I certainly don't need you to define my role - thank you, but I've defined it for myself long ago. Ask around, and try to find someone who is willing to do more for new players than I am. Pass or fail, I'll stand upon the legacy I've built for myself.
How does flaming someone repeatedly help them? I have only been here for a few days and havent seen evidence of the above.

I then write my views, and u flame me.

Diabolico x64 says his part, and u respond by flaming him.

Sorry but u contradict yourself, u have just flamed 3/3 ppl .... and u say u help ppl ?

I think perhaps you need to re-read the definition of helping ppl out...

I can tell you a good 10 ppl who are more willing to help ppl out - Diabloico x64 is a legend, when I was a newbie here he answered all my questions and gave me links to everythign I needed to know. All of the individual forum moderators spend a lot of time helping new ppl out by pointing them in the right direction. I can think of hundreds of others - Lord S. , Jordy666, etc etc...

Anywayz, Im not going to write any more on this thread as I dont see any value to anyone else in even reading it, and its just wasting RPGforums valuable bandwith.

The fact that MapHack has a socket protection feature is fairly common knowledge to anyone who's read any of the number of threads just like this one that pop up, or spends any amount of time paying attention in trading games on b.net. Plenty of times I've heard "lol now i just have to turn off mh so i can put [whatever] into the socket." It's not exactly a secret, so if you're trying to imply that Nolo uses it and is just being a hypocrit, then you're dead wrong.

Nolo's quite a helpful person, despite what you might like to be trying to say about him. I remember doing a trade with him once, and I was talking about making a Delirium, but didn't know if I wanted to invest the runes only to find out that I didn't particuarly like it. I think this was the first time we had met each other in-game, and he went off and found his Delerium, and let me take it for a spin.

He's quite alright in my book, and when I'm actually able to get back to playing, I look forward to seeing him in-game more.

What an odd state of affairs - we've got a 'legend' dispensing information on the Newbie Forum on how to use cheat programs, and a poster who believes my patient diatribe constitutes 'flaming'. Hopefully you won't be around if I ever actually do run out of patience and start hurling invectives.

Thanks for the kind words, GIR - I had forgotten about that Delerium helm. How have you been?

Truth be told, I did not know MapHack did any 'socket protecting' until I read about it early in this thread.

Nice double post -

Hopefully you won't be around if I ever actually do run out of patience and start hurling invectives.
No need to resort to childish threats - we both have a different point of view they clash - get over it- *passes Nolomite a box of tissues* dry your eyes princess.

A double post is when you post the same thing twice in a row - not when you happen to make two consecutive posts, such as when an old friend leaves kind words for you at the same time - see the time stamps? - as you were leaving a completely different post.

You stated that you were not going to 'write any more on this thread as I dont see any value to anyone else in even reading it'. I am glad you've decided to continue your participation. Based on the dismal English skills you have displayed thus far, I thought you might like to add a new word to your vocabulary. This, from the Merriam-Webster site:

Entry: in·teg·ri·ty
Pronunciation: in-'te-gr&-tE
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English integrite, from Middle French & Latin; Middle French integrité, from Latin integritat-, integritas, from integr-, integer entire
1 : firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values : INCORRUPTIBILITY

Just so you know the source from which I derive all of my personal direction.

dry your eyes princess.
Apparently you are starting to kindle your own flames.

Wrong -- that's an accidental double-post, usually caused due to a misclick or lag. A double-post is when you make any two posts in a row, and is not allowed here. You've just violated yet another rule here.

On the subject of new words:

Occam's Razor, or Ockham's Razor:

The definition varies depending on translation, but commonly it's taking the belief that there is no difference between something that exists but is not observable and something that doesn't exist at all. Or, to put another way, if two or more theories serve as answers, choose the simpliest (the one that requires the least amount of assumptions).

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of vigilante justice, and I agree that the use of MH's and other cheats is just plain wrong, but I don't think we should assume the original poster uses it, yet.

i vote that everyone just let this thread die here and now. We're not discussing hacks any more as much as the topic about discussing discussing hacks is. Just stop arguing, swallow your pride and move on.

Yes, a new thread is required.

It should be titled as : 'Poll: Vote your most honorable player in B net'

I like your explanation of 'double post' vs. 'accidental double post', Diabolico. Rather than quibble, I'll post the definitive rules of these forums:

RPG Forums Ten Commandments

1. Thou Shalt Not Flame. Even if you strongly hate the content of a post, and detest the individual to whom you're responding so strongly you dream of seeing Carvers playing softball with his internal organs, please exercise restraint and post without flames. (You are allowed, however, to make rude facial expressions and socially unacceptable hand gestures as you press "submit.") Do not bypass the word filter.

Your behaviour is judged not just here, but elsewhere. If you slander or libel this site or the site staff on another website, forum, or by other public means, your membership in RPGForums.Net may be terminated without notice.

2. Thou Shalt Not Spam or Engage in Posting Wars. Post it once, and post it nice, and please don't ever post it twice. (There's a song there somewhere.) Pick a forum, pick a message, and that's that. Don't post in every forum with the same message. If it's a general post, use one of our general forums. If it's specific to a class… well.. you follow the drift. (If it's major news, then mail it to:

DiabloII.Net

WorldofWar.Net

And we may share it with the world on our front page news.

It gives us a warm feeling in our tummies that you care about your post count and your forum ranking here at RPGForums.Net. But if we see you posting meaningless tripe to edge up the count, or using the forum for a chitchat better suited to ICQ or AIM or one of our chat rooms (DiabloII.Net, WorldofWar.Net) room we'll ask you to stop. And reset your post counter to -450. Yeah, we're evil like that.

3. Thou Shalt Not Advertise. We do not intend to serve as a linking service or a search engine to other sites. Links that wouldn't be allowed anywhere on the forums (including signatures, and location) would be to links to sites (commercial OR personal) that have:

1. Pornographic, racist or illegal materials, including game cheats or hacks
2. Profit sites (any get rich quick sites). This is sites that earn the poster a profit/commission or sites that give points for incoming links
3. Sites that are competitive to any of the fan sites here. It has taken many 'man' hours to compile the sites' content and as such our commitment to the promotion of that content is total. Neither do we allow visitors to use our forum membership as a means to build their own sites from, using our Private Messaging system to recruit writers and/or their content or membership drives for their own forums.
4. Sites carrying ad-busting software

4. Thou Shalt Not Post Naughty Links or Graven Images. This is beyond advertising. Do this, you earn a drop kick into the next timezone and an instant account deletion, without a second glance. The game is rated Mature, but we all know there are a ton of kids of varying ages and lots of different types of people who play Diablo II and who visit our site. Even if this wasn't the case, we just don't want porn and other yucky stuff on our boards. No images can be posted. Sorry, you don't get to vote on this one. No way of telling if someone will post up a rude image, or pull from a slow server, causing the pages to load for everyone at the speed of a slug. Better, we think, to just bag the whole idea of images [apart from in the Pal forum]. We graciously give you an Avatar, and that's the limit of your "visual self-expression," as the interior designers, say.

5. Thou Shalt Not Pimp or aid the Pimping of hacks and Cheats. Hacks and Cheats are 3rd party programs that allow you to alter the way a player interacts with a game. This includes, but not restricted to Maphack and Pindlebot. We do not support the use of these. You may not ask for help in creating a hack/cheat, a link to where you can find one, provide a link to where people can download one. However, the morality of using these programs is sometimes discussed and we allow these [within reason], unless it violates any other rule.

In the trading forums we do not allow people using trade hacks or Pindlebot and then peddling their wares on the forums. If using the trading forums you should make sure you are familiar with the Terms and Conditions of the RPGTraders.Net as they apply to the forums also.

6. Thou Shalt Not Engage in Unnatural Bumping. We have a "bump up" feature, where the post with the most recent addition goes to the top of the forum listing. If your post is good, it'll be responded to. If it's responded to, it'll undergo the process we call Natural Bumping. Natural Bumping = good. Unnatural bumping = bad. Unnatural Bumping is where someone posts, "I'm adding this to put this thread back at the top." Do it, we slap your hand. Do it often, you pull back a bloody stump.

7. Thou Shalt Not Spoof. Don't make up an account name designed to resemble another poster. If you're banned for some reason, don't keep coming back with "Fred," "Fred the Undead" and "Fred Yet Again." If you were banned, take it like a man… wellll, take it like a reasonable person, and accept your fate. We ban the person not the account so registering under a new nickname will result in that account being banned too. If you wish, you may appeal the account closure to the staff. Oh, and for goodness sake, don't make up additional accounts to respond to yourself. (People who talk to themselves used to be burned at the stake as witches; we still hold to that belief system, here at RPGForums.Net ;)

8. Thou Shalt Not Get Territorial. If you post or submit something to any of our sites, or to RPGForums proper -- be it an article, a news item, a forum post, a strategy guide, or a suggestion -- it becomes the property of the site. That means if we leave it in the forum, post it to our Strategy Compendium or put it into a Hall of Fame or whatever, it is still your work, but we have rights to it as well. If we allow it to be present on the site(s), or use it in any form, you agree that you have no financial claim against the site. We do not demand that items be exclusively ours, but once something it submitted to us for publication or posted in our forums, its removal is entirely at our discretion.

9. Thou Shalt Accept the Admin's Decisions. We [RPGForums.Net and its admins] reserve the right to ban [temporarily or permanently] or place on Probation [limit privileges] any member of RPGForums.Net without warning. We reserve the right to edit, move or remove any post made on RPGForums.Net without warning or explanation. We reserve the right to edit any portion of a member profile without warning. You will accept all this gladly and with open arms because we do it with love.

10. Thou Shalt Not Mention "Freedom of Speech." Or we'll vomit. All over your Treads of Cthon, we promise you. This is a private forum, and you are our invited guests. The administrators have a tough job, trying to keep the forums clean and presentable while not willingly stifling open discussion. If a thread or post is locked or deleted, that was the necessary step to take in the judgment of the administrator. Please don't bandy irrelevant constitutional law and hope to plea the case for less "censorship." Don't start a vote, don't throw food, don't throw a hissy fit, don't light up torches and mob our central office. We don't censor, we exercise judgment and quality control on something in which we invest a lot of time and effort. We only accept posts written in English.
Oddly enough, I don't see anything about 'double posting' of any variety - commandment #2 prohibits 'spam', but we've already hashed over the 'repetitive' nature of the working definitons of the slang word 'spam'. My pair of consecutive posts were clearly not repetitive. Perhaps you are thinking of the rules posted in the Trade Forum regarding spam/bumping of item advertisements?

Also, you might wish to review Commandment # 5, and especially when you are trying to paint me as a 'forum rule-breaker'.

Any forum members who would like to see me 'stand down' on this cheating issue - or stand down with regards to the attempted personal attacks on me which this discussion has generated - can be assured that I will let this dead horse rest as soon as forum members terminate their personal attacks on me.

It's strange, but I knew that my new signature would set some people off: I was curious as to who, and when, but both of these questions have been answered.

What new signature? U dont have a signature... :: curious ::

Its nothing personal - obviously we are all entitled to our own views. If you write something that I agree with in a differnet thread then I will back you up 100%.

The countless dribble rule will apply to us all very shortly if we continue on here, I agree with LS time to end the thread. *swallows pride*

P.S : Diabolico x64 hasnt said that he supports hacks, he simply said that the original poster may not be using a hack, so dont flame the original poster until you know for sure... thats all....

A double post is when you do 2 posts in a row - its only generally acceptable if the "edit" button has dissapeared. Most ppl have the talent and skill to address several topics in one reply, some I guess donot.

Most people would agree that 2 posts in a row is simply a cheap way to get your post counter up. especially when the edit button is still available.

Anyway, Nuff said.

I can see his signature. It reads

"Don't be afraid to play 100% legit - no contraband, no dupes, no Pickit, no Maphack.

I think I remember reading something on the support forum about some people who could not see signatures. Out of interest sake, can you see LS's signature?

Nope I cant see any signatures on anyone here...

I can however see Melianors signature in the Sorc forum.

Bizzare.

LOL, I get the comment now, before I was just like... wot the.
thanks for clearing that up Orphan.

I think its mostly obvious that everyone here doesnt support hacks which is a good thing :)

I'm almost sorry I ever posted in this thread and hoped to embarrass someone into possibly stop using MapHack.

It seems like every subscribed thread I have has turned defensive. It's like everyone here is arguing over who hates MapHack more or how the way they hate it is best.

Nolo, I know your stance and I admire it.

Gaza, I'm glad you stopped using MapHack.

Diabolico, I personally am glad that someone decided to agree on innocent until proven guilty.

See, you all made positive contributions... what's the use in arguing about the differences.

It's called debats, just like the presidency race thingy some months ago. The only thing that matters are hard unrefutable facts; it either proves a point or kills it, no matter who is right...so, im gonna let the mod know this thread is dead so he/she can lock it so there will be no more flaming...

I believe that whatever arguments were used here are more than enough, so no need to let this open and get someone banned by sheer mistake. Therefore . . . thread closed (thx Luckymofo)
