    I'm growing to hate helping...

The last time on Bnet i though i'd be nice and scan the games to see if someone need some help or something. [only so many pindle-runs you can do till you want a change of pace.]There's the usual "Help with Ancients/Need help with act "X", etc.... So i join a few quickly dispatch of the people's problems and i feel good about myself... Till everyone leaves the game as soon as they've gotten what they wanted.... So i thought to myself hey ya know a "thank you" would be nice. Oh well whatever maybe i just hit a string of a few people... but No... i was to be much mistaken... I scan some more games and look for someone else in distress. I join one and help kill off the ancients for them... First of all A stupid sorceress who was more than capable of casting spells to help me merely just teleported around staying away from them while my merc and I did the dirty work.... Grumble Grumble... After they were dead all i got was a mere "ty"... You can't even take the time to spell two words, both of which are nice and short! So that was the last time i helped someone free of charge... I decided to go into a game that said "forge 4 rush" thinking to myself "hey maybe it'll be worth my time." We get all the way to act 4 and the person leaves the game... ... So i said ehh... alright one more time... "forge 4 ancients" was next on the list... Wasn't very hard just killed them off quickly... then whomever i helped said, "Ok you want forge? No?" (rambled off some more jibber-ish started spamming "Forge or no?" So by the time i said "yes i'd like the forge, please", They said "ok, wait... NO!" then left the game... That was the last straw... I quick looked up the account name and started spamming them... It's people like that that make BNet such a scum hole... And Yes i plan on continuing to spam that Jacka**... If anyone would like to contribute in spamming... their account is on US East... account name *cristovao3

Gah... I was taught that it's good to help people... and ya know i think i may still do so... but a simple Thank you would be enough... I was helped before and i just want to pass it on... but these people are just immature

I never help pubby people. Its a law... I help friends and diabloii.net forum people ONLY. Pubby people are mud and dirt on my boots.

You either run into ungrateful people, or people who keep wanting more (add you to their list and spam for everything they EVER need)

Sorry to hear. Fortunately for myself, I act in self-interest and have zero faith in peoples' goodwill in games like this.

Don't let the annoying pubby people get to you....and don't bother spamming the guy/girl......its just a waste of time...

If you're feeling generous, help out the folk here at the forums - I'm fairly sure that most of them are nice folk and will really appreciate any help you can give them.

Yeah I run into the same things as you, but I have actually found alot fo good people. You want a tip for helping people find a game where there are 1 or 2 people actually working through the quests. Help them instead, They say thank you 90% of the time. I like helping people who are actually doing the work, not just being free loaders. Just my opinion though.

I am going to second that. I hate generalizing as much as the average person does, but I have to admit it is a trend. If you are helping people who create games like "Rush plz" "Help me plz plz", the amount of credit you get is usually quite minimal, but if you help people who don't beg or don't even ask for help, it's much better. That is my personal experience as well.

For the rest I can only second what Nastie_Bowie already said: welcome to Battle.net.

Hmm, all I can add to this is that you shouldn't be discouraged to stay friendly. I know that is difficult sometimes, but it really pays off. Out of the 10 people I help, I get thanks from only 1 or 2, but it's worth it. I have had quite some Battle.net friends this way.

That said, being friendly is often about the little things, not rushing or ancients or whatever act boss. Partying with a Sorceress at level 1 or 2, and giving her the staff that drops because she might be able to use it, even though it could yield a few thousand gold pieces, or occasionally drop mana potions you have found. Partying with a range character and attracting the monsters towards you so the range character won't get the majority of hits. Stuff like that.

Oh i'll still be helpful... but no more quick fixes to "help w ancient plz" etc. etc.... maybe...i'll consider offering up a free rush for someone when i'm bored of magic finding... by the way, i've always wondered what that boxed in "B" next to some people's names means...

I've been rushing people lately for the forge drops and I think I've come up with a good way to make sure that they pay up. Before I start the rush I make them type "I promise to give you my hellforge drop before I leave this game." I then tell them that I have taken a screen shot and will report them if they don't pay up after. I know that I wont report them and even if I did nothing will be done, but I have yet to have anyone type that and not pay. Give it a try if you want. It works for me.

Ppl who end up starting a game asking for help are usually really irritating. I was in hell act 1 with my fire druid (don't laugh), and we all know act 1 is full of those fire immune carver/devilkin thingies. So 3/4 other characters fully capable of helping out were just running around avoiding things. Including a werewolf whom was definitely capable of at least helping out.

Myself I never ask for help beyond the odd waypoint or two when my entire friend list is asleep cos I'm in a different timezone (I mean really different)

I only help when I'm in a really good mood and nobody can ruin it.

So far I've met friends only through questing together, they gave me free stuff when I just started, now I give them back the odd item which they need.

Generally, there's no easy way to meet nice ppl.

I've met this dude that kept asking me to rush him and when I finally agreed, he kept wasting time, doing all sorts of weird stuff, finally he asked if I could duel his other character??? I mean... is it a lot to ask that ppl give full cooperation for a free rush? Or at least no messing around?

Pubby hellforge for rushing is highly suspect and its expected that a huge number result in scams. I've never charged for a rush before but if I do I think it would be from the forums where people are generally more trustworthy. I've drop traded with total strangers from the forum before, they dropped first even though my post count is low and probably grounds for suspicion. They then proceed to ask if they can mule, drop the item in front of me again and then come back for it. Only forum ppl would do that. Others would at least find a random waypoint to put the item at.

I'm still relatively new with the forums, but the trades i've done with forum members have been smoothe, hassle free and comepletely fair. I've told all my other non-forum friends to try and trade on here... Unfortunately i was scammed maybe 2 times when i was rather newb-ish with the trade your 7 smfc for my anni! yeah... i hate those people... i've met a grand total of 2... only 2 people on Bnet who've been trustworthy enough to help me mule... the one probably only sticks around because i give him free lower class set pieces and uniques that i find while MFing... if it keeps him happy and my stuff in my possesion and having someone there to mule items when others aren't on... sometimes it's worth it...

I totally hear ya. I helped groups of people do ancients one day due to bordem. I did a total of 15 hell ancient's for not just one person but all where groups. I got 1 "ty" out of all those game and from all those people. And what was said about people being annoying is very true. I help people out and next thing i know 2 hours later i am squelching them cause they just won't stop asking for something else. I have finally stopped helping out people except my buds. It has just become common to not show any appreciation for anything that someone does for you. I myself am a very nice person. I was doing a hell rush for a sorc, all the sudden when we where up to act 2 the diablo clone came in the game. I myself already had an annihilus charm so i went and killed the clone in act 5 and gave the charm to the sorc. Didn't even get a thank you. Well i have steamed enough for now lol. :drink: :drink:

When I help ppl I dont expect anything but pleasure being a helpful person.

And its alot more fun then endless mf and baal runs. There you are actually playing the game itself.

That sorceress who got the charm better repay the favor someday... I've been playing for a while and never once seen the clone spawn... I'd prefer to not trade for an anni charm on Bnet because i'd get scammed... and besides it takes all the adventure out of having to actually kill the clone and say you did it legitly... I gaurantee you 90% of the people on battle.net haven't gotten their good items by themselves... and Ebay Bought Runewords/dupes!! That's just plain old cheap and pretty much just like cheating as if you were using maphack or something...

True, but a simple "thank you" every now and then doesn't hurt.
