Actually, that is not a bad I idea to get the torch, that would still keep him under budget 7 PGems with the allres jewel.

oh, dont know why, but i forgot to say in my last post that adding pts to nat res only adds about 2 res/ lvl, so its usually not a good idea to use more than 1pt there, and let the +skills take care of the rest.

Re: I'm bored so...

I'll have to make a cleaned up version of this guy after I am done getting the last couple things for him. Any suggestions for socketing for the merc armor and weapon as an option as an add-on later as they would get more currency?

And where would you allocate the rest of the stat points that the guy will end up getting later? I am assuming that because he doesn't have a shield that putting points in to shout is not going to do much for him, or am I wrong in thinking that? You think the extra 160 points of damage from enchanting is worth it, or should I replace it with another wc stick?

I did manage to scoop up a 10/19 torch for a pul. If I can get at least another +10 ResAll jewel, he will be almost maxed out except in two spots he will be short by five points, not bad.

[EDIT]
Just ran the minons and baal again, much much easier now that he has a torch on. The fifth wave still took a bit of work and the throne room is a bit of a pita to triwhirl around in when you get jammed up on the objects on the ground, but they went down, had to down a few pots, but it was all good. Just the torch alone leaves me at 17 PGems under budget yet.

I mite rebuy the arreat's and see if I can get one with better life leech, then sell the one I have on, it is only 3ll (189ed). It was the only deal anyone would offer me below pul (30PG) at the time and that was imo total overpay for such low leech on it. Although I did get extremely lucky on the UNID soul drainers, they turned out to be 7/7 :p

So, all in all, for a poor man's 'Budget Barb', it mite be a small bit of a challenge but you'll live. Definitely fun to play a char that is not decked out, makes you realize how good you have it made when you steamroll through the game with good items like fort/ebotd/grief/etc but it also reminds me that I can still play the game without all that stuff.

Getting bored is the key reason you don't repeatedly play the same character three straight difficulties. In fact, playing a different class is wholly advised.

For instance, I make an entire account with one of each class and an open/Barbarian eighth for muling. I play each one into act five, usually just far enough to get the last waypoint, but even though at CLvl34 I've finished a third of the game and should complete Baal, I wait until CLvl36 so I can get full credit for monsters in nightmare act one and use the normal imbue quest on ethereal war javelins. A character of this level can also hold quite a bit of gold to help gambling, and if you decide to share the Baal quest before moving to nightmare you can get another character rushed in return (meaning more legitimate runes) and still have someone in act one to pick up excess gold from nightmare high council runs.

Just a thought, but I don't understand not using even original/low-level runewords. True, it makes it quicker as you don't need to run around saying 'I need an Amn!,' but consider Double Throw, then: throwing weapons can't have sockets and you usually have Echoing weapons on switch. The only temptation would be helm and body armor, doubly with a weapon if you outfit a mercenary, but then if you wanted a challenge simply don't use one - play classic style or just play classic entirely, converting the character after hell Diablo runs bore you. That takes care of everything, I should think.

Re: I'm bored so...

I actually normally don't play barbs, I usually play necros and have a paly for mfing.

I just know though, that if I roll up a barb (or any char) with really good gear, it will be easy to run over the game. So I figured, why not make a low budget char that any new person to the game can feasibly build and still be able to survive hell on a solo.

I just felt using runewords would take the fun out of it for me. And it goes to show the new players that you don't have to use runewords at all to complete the game. They can get everything they need with pgems and not have to feel they need to have the best runewords and gears out there that every guide has and everyone mentions in order to enjoy the game.

It just seemed like fun to do something not ordinary on the xp ladder that I like to play on, guess everyone has their own version of fun ;) And, I am really having a lot of fun playing this guy, I pretty much ripped through all of hell today with him, not saying it was 100% with ease, but I would say it was very manageable. It's also been good for a rise to have the other players ask me what gear I got on and then I tell them, not what they expect lol.

I actually plan on going over some other classes and doing the same thing if I don't see a budget minded build in the guides. I mite do a complete Aldur's druid, as that gear is completely dirt cheap and I am thinking you could do a viable shape shifter with it.

BTW Guys- I feel like an idiot, I bought a wc stick, I put it on a mule and I can't find the damn thing, mite need to get another one lol.
