ilvl???

Is there a way to determine the ilvl of an item without knowing its history? ie. if you traded for an ethereal thresher and wanted to know if larzuk would give it 4 or 6 sockets. i've heard of something called hero editor, but does it show this info? and is it blizz-approved?

Editors are not approved not allowed by Blizzard, and not allowed here.

As such, info about editors isn't allowed here either.

If you play Single Player, you can use ATMA or GoMule to view an item's level. They are available for virus-free download in the Single Player Forum. Neither are editors, and both are accepted by the diii.net forums.

Yout thresher will get its maximum of 5 sockets (not 6), only those in normal mode and early nightmare can have such a low ilvl that it might get less and threshers cannot drop there, as well as any other elite item. Exception: Low quality items whivch have been fixed with the cube recipe have an ilvl of 1, but I think the chance for that is rather low and apart from that, I'm not sure if low quality ethereals exist at all, at least I cannot remember that I ever found one.

Among the polearms, it's giant threshers and great poleaxes which have a maximum of 6 levels and it's the same with respect to them.
