I'm against anything that cuts off the flow of delicious tortilla snacks.

I live practically in Mexico. I'd be pissed if I couldn't drive over the border to buy booze and smokes.

BTW, Durf...come to S.Texas and I'll take you to the best tamale place in the world.

Damn. I'll start saving for a ticket to meet Bortaz right now. The list of reasons to do so grows every day.

    EDT:

Well yeah, this isn't a good day. I reckon WildBerrt would sound an awful lot less cooler than the current account name, and that's what I'd had were I to type it today.

Or matbe I should sat todat

Why should the border be open in the first place?

Not saying it should be closed, but why open?

Seems unlikely (although what do I know about Mexican politics?), even hotly disputed elections rarely tip over into civil war, especially in a prosperous (well you know, relatively speaking) country like Mexico.

What do you mean should you close the border then? Aren't you trying and failing to do that right now?

We're trying, but too many people get their undies in a bundle over a standing order of "Shoot anything that moves".

How would shooting them help? The problem is catching them in the first place...

That's pretty funny Smeg. But on a serious note. I'm not sure we want to take on the responsibility of feeding, housing and providing medical care for 100 million additional people even if we do get their land and natural resources.

It's likely we'll support the de facto legal government (the status quo). They're the ones importing oil to us anyways. And most importantly, they're the ones most likely to win. At least they're predictable. We've no idea what a new government will look like.

Close the border to refugees likely to be created in lieu of war? Absolutely not. We need to be on the good side of who ever wins. Besides, we're need to look good as a world leader. Difficult to do that when the BBC is sending photos of our border guards sniping Mexican civilians fleeing their war.

Interesting. I wonder if anything will come of it.

So you want to finish the job you started, stealing land from Mexico? Go ahead, those people are risking their own lives to be a part of America as it is... I thought you wanted to stop that...
