If im NOT going to be playing online.....

And will be playing single player ONLY, which would be the recommended patch to use? Cause i heard the latest patch ups the difficulty quite a bit and if i dont have access to suitable equipment, its gonna be tough. Also, ive heard that my choice of builds would be limited to too.So, should i upgrade to 1.10 or stick to 1.09?

1.10 is not that difficult in my opinion. I started playing in 1.10 and also play single player only and never felt that the game is too difficult . If you make your charater correctly, you shouldn't have much problem. There are many good 1.10 build guides to help you start.

But people have told me that barbarians tend to be sucky in hell if they dont have decent equipment. And had told me that on 1.09 i would be able to get through alll the difficulties with any build. Can somebody clarify this plz and tell me which version i should go for?

well, as you said yourself, you can get trou 1.09 whit ANY build, which is a clear sign imo taht it s too easy.

also, if you play a lil bit, you will find better items, so you ll also be able to make a good barb in 1.10. of course, you ll need to make some mf runs. if you just wanna play some hours and zip trough everything whit a uber sorc play 1.09, if you want a bit of a long time challenge, play 1.10

    i d go 1.10 anytime, btw

K, thanks.I think ill go with 1.10 then.Always preferred a challenge anyways.I was getting confused because people told me that in order to get through hell in single player a summonmacer and a meterob sorceress would be my best choices and most melee characters would be very tough.Since you say it is possible and not VERY difficult (right?) im going with 1.10.

well, of course any melee char will need a good weapon since it s his only way to get good damage, so u should probably start whit a mf char and build some melee chars later when u have some half way good items...

for a first char hammerdin, meteorb or summoning necro would be good. also a holy shock or vengeance pala can get trou the game almost naked, but he s not such a good mfer. if you look on the spf you ll find that some crazy people have played almost every char naked ! trou hell, but that s not just a "little" challenge !

anyway, making a melee char right away as first char in 1.10 can be tough. is tough. not impossible of course, but you ll have to play very very carefull. you need a weapon first. but these will come in fairly quick, if you ask me. you need the right methods though ( well, as i said, a mf hammerdin or such... )

1.09 still has that global 50% Physical immune, so if you ask me, melee characters are even harder to play in hell in 1.09 than in 1.10.

In 1.09 every other boss is PI, meaning every melee character has to have a viable source of non physical attack in order to survive and that just sucks.

1.10 has more difficult monsters, but its within your means to build your character more carefully. Do that and you will be fine.

What exactly do you mean by a "MF" character. Is it a character solely used to find items? and how come i dont hear the hammerdin often when people speak of a 1st character? Always heard summonmacer and meteorb, but never before heard hammerdin. Is the hammerdin build not as effective as the others?

actualy, the hammerdin is so good that most people think its too easy :) imo surely the strongest character for pvm.

mf is a char only to find items, yes. look in the paladin forum for a guide how to build a hammerdin, and surely some nice person can find a guide for mf-ing.

    good luck :)

IIRC hammerdins take a little practice to aim the hammers, and can be frustrating for new players. This is not the case for the sorc or necro, as the necro doesnt have to aim, and the sorcs aim is pretty straight forward. Maybe this is why you havent heard about the hammerdin?

Trying 1.10 is certainly something I would recommend, especially considering the fact that it's easy to uninstall again if you don't like it.

Both 1.09 and 1.10 have their distinct advantages and disadvantages. I definately prefer 1.10, mostly because of these reasons:

    * More runewords (of the "new" ones, I´ve only been able to make 'Passion' so far, but damn, that´s good!)
    * More set/unique items drop. Noticable even with 0% MF.
    * More runes drop (it´s still too hard to find the "high" ones, though)
    * Many more elite uniques in the game
    * 'Area levels' which means that it´s now possible to find the high-end elites in some areas in early Hell (Mausoleum, Crypy, Pit, Maggot Lair, Ancient Tunnels, etc.)
    * The ridiculous TC 90 is removed and those items got moved to TC 87, and odds for dropping high-end TCs has been improved)
    * A major boost to most of the class specific expansion set items.
    * More cube recipes (especially the upgrading and socketing recipes are invaluable for those of us who don´t move items between characters)
    * Massive monster variation in NM/Hell act 5. This act is SOOO boring in 1.09.
    * You can buy mana potions!
    * Extra temporrary effects of thawing-, antidote- and stamina potions.
    * Rare/crafted items have much greater potential. They can now get Cruel, Masters, Godly, Shocking, Condensing, etc.
    * Much more experience points gained in single-pass play. No longer a need to "level up" characters if you do full clears. In 1.09, my Mats/Pats/Guardians (played on /players 1) reached level 73. Now they get to 84. A /p1 full clear of Normal and NM makes you start Hell at level 67. On /p8, it´s level 74-75.
    * Much-needed improvements of many skills. Enchant (now with AR bonus!), Dragon Talon, Blade Fury, Druid elemental skills, etc. are only a few.
    * 1.10 is harder!

    Quite an easy anserw:

    b1.10

    Why?

Blizz fixed some bugs. You got more items runewords etc. (i.e. more fun :)) and - I think the most important - the game is harder thus you can't create any build that will let you go through the hell like the knife through the butter ;). Stick with the new one!
