I wanna tank!! Help please :)

Hello, i am making a zealot (which is lvl 81 atm) and i made it for the exclusive purpose of tanking (and no, i don't like barbs :p). BUT i have just seen the build in this page called Frost Zealot in PvM builds section and it seems the build i have been looking for.

I would like to ask something im obsessed, yes, OBSESSED with: Is That Frost zealot a good tank?

I'm looking for a pally build that is a good tank and is really hard to kill, no matter what damage or fast he kills.

What would be better for tanking, zealot or this build? (If i make this build i would do the 'defensive one' maxing Holy shield, resist cold, zeal, salvation and the rest in defiance for the HS synergy, which means full elemental damage but less physical, or maybe would max defiance and give the rest to Salvation)

ALso, as a side information i would like to know if he can solo easily in Hell (easily, not fast ;)) and if not, just know if it soloes better than the zealot.

Many thanks in advance, if you answer me you will make me happier than you can imagine :) (gonna go crazy if i don't decide fast)

i would say that any melee build has the potential to be a good tank. u basically just need high life and high def and i guess good hit recovery. a pallys holy sheild would help a lot and the freezing from holy freeze i would imagine would help a good deal even though ive never played a frost zealot. i would try to get decent cold dmg while still having good phys dmg for cold immunes and i would put as many pnts in holy sheild as you can and maybe even some in defiance.

Frost zealots are very good tanks, due to the fact that holy freeze slows enemies down more than 50%. If you use the defensive build, I would suggest leveling up defiance instead of salvation (the 7% synergy is useful, but could go without it). Combined with a defiance merc you would get really high defence and 75% block while everyone in the screen is slowed. Give your merc reapers toll which has decrepify on striking, nothing really can hit you :). And yes, since the defensive build lack physical damage, going with crushing blow will help a lot. The frost zealot is very viable in hell, one of my favorite pally builds.

Thanks a ton really. Now my only problem is the base stats. I know the base for my zealot but never made a freeze one so no idea what to do with this one.

On the guide it says STR enough for equipment and DEX enough for max blocking. sBUT no idea which one will be my equpment and i don't know much about nice item. So any help on where i should spend my points would be greatly appreciated :) (i hope i don't need much str and dex so i can get lots in VIT hehe)

Your stats really depends on what kind of equip you can afford/have.

Dex is probably one of the hardest thing to plan because it is very item dependent.

Lets say you use HoZ and Guardian Angel and have lvl 20 Holy Shield. Then at level 80, you'd need roughly 103 dex for max block.

Str, again is item dependent as well, if you like defence, I'd suggest using an upped guardian angel (which has a really high str req, 196) so depending on what items you have or will wear, you'd need roughly 140-160 str

just make sure you have just enough str and dex for you equip and block and put everything on vit... 200+ is a good place to aim for

hope that helps

Sorry, no idea how to edit and not sure if it's possible but one last question:

Which is the best merc for frost zealot? I wanna be defensive and defiance merc would be great, but what if i wanted to solo? would a might merc be better? not sure what to do :p.
Thanks

Well, since you stated earlier you wanted to be a tank and didn't care too much about your damage output, i would say defiance is still the way to go. Besides you are sticking more to the elemental side of damage and neglecting the physical. Imho, for this build i would most definately go with defiance.

Oki, I'll make a defiance one for sure but, something came to my mind.
Wouldn't it be better if i maxed Sacrifice (for zeal synergy) instead of defiance since i would get better life leeches for better tanking? I have been thinking about it but i don't know anyone who has made a frost zealot and can't get that info.

unless you use sacrifice as your primary skill (which hopefully you're not), it's synergy to zeal only adds damage, not life leech. So it only adds physical damage. I still think defiance would be better for your tank.

Yeah, thats why i asked. More physical damage would be = more life leech.

Ok, then, i'll stick with defiance :) (love high defense hehe)
Thanks for everything, i won'ta annoy any longer *in this post* ;)

oops, guess I read it wrong :p... but yea, grab yourself a pair of dracul's grasp and you'll never need and life leech again.

Have fun!

Defiance/holyshield is the best tank long as you max res with equip. Here are my builds.

defensive/defensive build: kills slow but survives easier
20 defiance
20 blessed aim
20 holy shield
4 (whatever the min to get five hits is) zeal
20 sacrofice
1 salvation

Equip
Kiras guardian, upped GA with res or um, HOZ with pdiamond or um, Shaeled Heavens light, verdungos belt, draculs grasp, some ammy i don't remember that gives lots of res and atributes and IM.

defensive/offensive build: Kills much faster
20 defiance
20 holy shield
4 (whatever the min to get five hits is) zeal
20 sacrofice
20 conviction
1 salvation

equip
Same except using LS and TGods for light absorb and hellmouth for fire.

Both solo in hell, any act, with ease and can tank anything. Stat alocation is as much as possible in life and minimal in str and dex. They don't do much dmg but survive long enough to make it count.
