I really think battle.net doesnt like me. HELP!!!

I just recently got LOD from walmart (gotta love that place) and i brought it home 2 play. I downloaded diablo II first, then expansion like normal. Then it asked if i wanted 2 register, so i did. But when i go to play battle.net, it sintalled the 1.10 patch, hten said that the cd-key i was using wasn't authorized for multiplayer use. I know its not stolen because the seal was sealed, and it didnt say that the key was in use; it said it *wasn't authorized for online use*. I was guessing that it may be my registration is wrong, but i went 2 battle.net to register but i cant find where to go 2 register. PLEASE help if anyone has any info at all.
Thanks Much

Weird, I would be inclined to ring Walmart and tell them, no doubt they will contact the distributor for Blizzard products in your area and they should be able to give u a new cd key.

Its possible that maybe that box of diablo games went missing so that they cancelled all the cd keys, or perhaps someone accidently cancelled those CD keys or something , or that they are just simply expired or invalid.... pretty weird anyway!

Perhaps this was just a typo, but you said something about downloading D2 and then installing LoD. If you don't have a legitimate CD Key for D2, you won't be able to play either, I believe.

I would say he meant he had to download the 1.10 patch, coz he said he bought it from a shop.

I just bought another battlechest pack, and it was only 1.09 so I had to download the new patch (I'm guessing similar to the original poster)

If I'm wrong let me know

But like Cajun says - U need to authentic CD keys - if u have one bogus one (from a pirated downloaded D2) and one authentic one (from the purchased D2X) then it wont work.

Not if you use pirated versions, it doesn't.

To play LOD on Battlenet, you need a viable cd-key for both the original game and the expansion. You said you downloaded the original Diablo II in order to play the expansion you bought: well, it won't work on Battlenet.

Case closed. You won't be able to use your bought copy of LOD on Battlenet until you have a legitimate copy of the original Diablo II too.

Either somebody stole your key (e.g. from a key generator or by buying the game, writing down the key, shrink-wrapping it again and giving it back) and got banned, so you have a "burned out" key, or Blizzard started to sell copies of the game which aren't intended to work on Battlenet.

Does the package or the docs mention anything regarding online play or Battlenet ? If yes, what ?

No offense, but does anybody read posts around here?

Again, he bought a copy of LOD, but he downloaded Diablo II. Hence, he cannot play on Battlenet. It is not weird at all, it is even very simple.

true, but we are giving him the benifit of doubt. when he said "I downloaded diablo II first, then expansion like normal." it also implies he dowloaded the expnasion which he didnt obviously because he bought it from the store. So my interpretation is that he confuses downloading with installing.

This being said, If he did actually download classic, he wouldnt be able to play on bnet because he doesnt have a legit CD key for classic.

That is how I read it as well.

It sounds like he bought both legit, then hes confusing downloading with installing, or when he mentions downloading, he is simply downloading the 1.10 patch, since most of D2's on the market place are the old 1.09 patch, so u have to download the 1.10 upgrade.

I always believe they are innocent till proven guilty :)

sorry....but you just made the same mistake :D
Uhm... come again? What mistake?

He did say "downloaded", whether he ment installed or not - so excuse me for drawing a conclusion. The fact that his cd-key doesn't work combined with his use of the word "downloaded" is surely a sign, no?

It's not about giving him the "benefit of the doubt". I didn't scold him nor report him. It is just about offering a possible answer to his question, that is all.

my response was to you chastizing the forum members about "reading" the posts. We did read the post, and we interpretted it different than you. So sue us if we actually do give him the benifit of doubt.

Well, you doubted that we carefully read his posting which sounded like "You have to read his posting my way". That doesn't sound like offering a possibility, but demanding to agree to your point as a base for further discussions. Perhaps you meant something different, but that how the others (including me) understood your posting.

In any case, a discussion about how to discuss this leads to nowhere :).

IMO it's as simple as this:

Case 1 - maussdahauss writes a reply: He will probably tell us that both keys are legit, so we can continue to find the reason for his problems.

Case 2 - he keeps silent: The problem has been solved or he doesn't want to admit that he used an illegal key. End of thread, no reason to continue.

So I suggest to wait for maussdahauss ;)

Maybe I'm wrong and maybe I'm not but let's see.

I you have a legit version of both you need to install the Multi-player or full version to be able to play online. If you don't do that you can't get online as well. No matter if you bought legit cd's or not.

Maybe that's why he can't play online?

You damn right I will!

Anyway, let's call it quits before it gets uglier. I might have gone overboard with my comment about reading posts. I was just saying that I presented a possible solution - it was a solution that didn't make maussdahauss look that good, but it was nevertheless a possible solution to his problem.

I actually was going with the second option in krischan's post: end of thread, no reason to continue if the original poster doesn't answer. I just wanted to react to Andy's comment, I guess.
