I need some help with killing Duriel

I'm playing a level 23 Paladin with a lot of Zeal and a lot of Holy Freeze. I beat Duriel in my game last night, but only after after dying twice. Unfortunately, I had something I had to take care of right away before I could go into the next room.

Which means, when I log back onto this game, I'll have to fight him again.

He was very, very tough, and I only survived the last time because I was lucky enough to block quite a few of his attacks with my Paladin.

My idea is to get to level 24 before going back in, so I'll have 1 more level of Holy Freeze, and 1 point in Holy Shield, which should help some.

I plan on doing 1 more Countess run and 1 more Andariel run before heading back. I also want to explore the "wrong" tombs as I haven't done that yet.

This should help make up for the huge amount of cash and gems I lost when re-equipping myself to fight Duriel and dying the first two times (ugh).

I'd love any other tips and advice to beating him. Thank you.

Drink health pots and use Town Portal when necessary. Some life leech will help too.

Drink some thawing potions before heading in. While they won't stop your character from being slowed down by Duriel's Holy Freeze aura they will drastically increase your cold resistance. That will make Duriel's attacks less potent.

Beyond that you just have to be prepared to TP out, restock and go back in. Sometimes you might only get a few swings in before retreating, but eventually Duriel will fall.

* A good blocking shield
* Drink a bunch of Thawing potions beforehand, and equip stuff with at least 35% cold resist (so you reach 85% total)
* If you do play some false tombs, save all the healing potions that are bigger than the ones you can buy (the greater healers are especially nice).

Was going to mention the thawing potion trick, but Mursilis already did.

I personally think normal Duriel is the toughest monster in the game for an untwinked character. I've thrown many more than two corpses at him before, so you're not doing too badly.

I hate Durielin normal, he can be a big pain in the backside. I've found that, apart from the other suggestions here, poison damage helps a lot. I went in with similar lvl frostzealot equipped with a 3 socket 1H axe with a Tal rune and a couple of emeralds in it. While I did have to TP out a couple of times I did not die (which is quite rare) and Duriel went down reasonably quickly.

Thanks guys, I beat him a lot easier after reaching level 24 and casting "Holy Shield" right before engaging him.

I have a 3 socket Flail with the runeword "Malice" (at least I think that's what it is). I use the Merc with the Prayer power, and I kinda like him more than using "Blessed Aim" guy (who's been suggested to me) because I don't have any problems hitting stuff. He's using a polearm with 7% leech (the best one I've found so far for him).

My Holy Freeze is now at 7 (max), Holy shield at 1 and Resist Cold at 1.

I actually had such an easy time the second go-around with him, I'm considering a few Duriel runs to up my power a bit.
