I need help to run an old game on windows XP

I have recently found the best game ever for download.

http://www.sdispace.com/inspace.htm

I remember playing this game many years ago and I have been looking for it ever since but it doesnt run on my xp computer.

When I try to run it I get this error.

So Im wondering if there is some program that I can run this inside so it is playable like some virtual windows 95 or so on.

I have already tried setting the compatability to win 95 and it doesnt work.

Too bad, so sad. Try buying something that BillyGates wants you to buy. Better yet, buy an XBox so he really has you by the short hairs.

I can't read the error message, but similar ones I've seen have to do with some of the tricks that programmers used to use in writing files within the \Windoze directory. Some of them go away if you grant the user full permissions on the directory, some don't.

DOSBox should work, thought it's hard to diagnose as I can't read the error message. Could you loosely translate it to English?

edit: I just checked your link and right at the top of the page it reads "compatible with all versions of Windows from 3.1 through XP." Odd indeed.

ok.

16-bit Windows-subsystem

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not appropriate for running DOS and Microsoft windows programs. Choose Close to shut down the program"

[Close] [Ignore]

I have had this error on alot of other older games and programs.

I won't respond with the all-too-trite "Bill Gates is the Devil's concubine". He's a convicted, unrepentant monopolist who views his role in life as 'dipping from the stream" (or well). His principle is that for anything you do on a computer, he ought to get a cut, just because he's so smart and had something to do with computers.

I happen to resent that level of hubris/arrogance/self-obsession. It has been seen before. And the two facts being that his contributions to IT are sadly lacking, and that he was completely uninterested in charity, reinforce my resentment. Far better to be a nutbag socialist working for the greater good like Stallman than to be a vile miser trying to insinuate himself into every transaction possible as he is currently.

FYI - Gates never contributed a dime to charity before Ted Turner, of all people, publicly humiliated him. Suddenly, the "Bill & Melinda" foundation is granting its benefits to (surprise, surprise) groups that will directly contribute to his personal wealth or importance.

EDIT - and having read my rant this far, I'd warn you that the preceding cautionary message from M$FT is pure-dee BS. I went through the steps of trying to 'fix' the files associated with that error message, and it only made things worse. :p

Actualy he donates more money to charity than any other person on the planet. Its been estimated that through his donations he has saved the lives of over 700.000 people.

Oh yeah and thanks to "krzyhobo" I can now play innerspace and alot of other old games I thought I had lost forever.

I owe you *one*.

Note the use of the word "was". He didn't give a dime before Ted Turner, of all people, publicly humiliated him regarding how much of a miser he was.

Here's a quick snippet, though it isn't the only thing I read in this regard -
In April, Turner chided fellow billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett for not donating more money to charity.

"What good is wealth sitting in the bank?" Turner said at the annual meeting of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "It's a pretty pathetic thing to do with your money."
