In the example I just gave, the hard working older people worked all their lives full time and they still can't afford to pay up or afford health insurance. I guess the US way is to chuck them into the 'useless trash begger' pile.
By the way, you're welcome for us subsidizing your drug costs.

Drug Companies don't sell drugs out of the goodness of their hearts, they don't think "hmmm.... people in the Middle East won't be able to afford to pay the cost price of our drugs, so we'll sell them at a loss and pass the costs back to the American consumer".

The drug companies still make a profit from their sales elsewhere (or they would not sell the drugs elsewhere for any length of time) and they obviously believe the profit margin is enough that it is worth their while selling those drugs. What you seem to be sayin is that US drug companies subsidize 95% of the worlds population with sales to the remaining 5%, rather than make ten times the profit than if they just sold to the US.

You're getting ripped off when buying meds, and that is a product of the way your health care system is set up and political issues surrounding Private/State health care in the US.

Once drug companies stop making a profit on new medicine, I can't wait to hear the outcry when they cease R&D.

Incorrect. I take it you aren't familiar with compulsory licenses.

Where did percentages come from?

Completely the opposite. Drug costs are higher here because the government doesn't control the price near as much as others.

Say we both go to buy a $5 sandwich that costs $4.50 to make. Your government tells the sandwich shop that your price is $4. The sandwich shop then charges us $10 for the pair of sandwiches. You look at me and say my system sucks because I had to pay $6, but you only had to pay $4 for the sandwich.

Yeah seriously i dont know how most of the threads in this forum go way off topic into some other tangent. Which is why i dont really maintain posting in most of them, except for the movie one.

Can you explain these please? The US government tells drug companies they have to sell drugs to specific countries at specific costs?

Where did percentages come from?
The US makes up approximately 5% of the worlds population.

Completely the opposite. Drug costs are higher here because the government doesn't control the price near as much as others.
I live in the Middle East, there is little socialized medicine here, and none for the expat population (who make up 90% of the population of the country I am in) are eligible for the paltry government healthcare. The same birth control that costs $25/month in the US costs $5 here - this difference is not likely to be due to the UAE government making the drug companies cut costs.

I'd also suggest that the fact that a significant portion of the population seriously objects to people even questioning US drug costs might also play a part in the US paying over the odds for their medicine.

Say we both go to buy a $5 sandwich that costs $4.50 to make. Your country tells the sandwich shop that your price is $4. The sandwich shop then charges us $10 for the pair of sandwiches. You look at me and say my system sucks because I had to pay $6, but you only had to pay $4 for the sandwich.
And if I'm the sandwich company I stop my business in the country that forces me to sell for $4 and keep selling in the country that pays $6 at $6/sandwich and boost my profits by 200%.

No, other governments say to the drug company "you make a drug that we find useful. Since you are not making it in our country, you have to give us your formula so we can make it ourselves. You'll get a nominal fee."

And if I'm the sandwich company I stop my business in the country that forces me to sell for $4 and keep selling in the country that pays $6 at $6/sandwich and boost my profits by 200%.
Except you can't stop your business in that country because it forces you to do business there.

And if they say "No"?

How?

Its strange to me how people think they should have the right to something they can't pay for.

Just feel lucky they didn't decide to focus on the word "immigrant" in the title instead, I guess.

back to topic (kinda):

what are YOUR sentiments about Poland (or staying in America)? i'd like to know

would you go there often after you've established yourself financially or something?

Its a little more difficult for me since i was only 4 when i moved away, but we visit every so often. To me, the US is my home, i cannot ever see myself moving back to Poland and permanently living there, but i can see myself visiting for long periods of time. But if i was able to visit, regardless of finances, i would visit every summer if i could. But at the rate we visit (every 2-3 years) is great, but like now.

I love culture there, it really makes me feel at home, being among a bunch of people that are like myself (that includes the food like my parents said). And i also love there nature, especially in the region that i was born in. Of course we have the same things here in the US, but its different going back to places that i have visited many times throughout my lifetime, and the environment i was raised in for a good few years of my life. Its just really calming, hard to explain. But i love visiting, i love my heritage and my culture, and i am proud. Though i do consider myself an American by society and everything, since i was raised here during all of the big years (teens mostly).

Re: I had to interview immigrants for a research paper, so here is what my parents sa

aye, that's a good stance.

i myself have been born and lived in Europe until the age of 8, when i moved here (Beijing, China).

Can't say i regret this, but i often wonder how it would've been, had i not moved out... there's plenty of childhood friends there that give me real-life examples of how that is (in Austria)

i guess i'm living in the land of my cultural heritage right now, but i'm actually more German in my mentality due to school here

of course i now have favorites in both places in areas like food or environment, i also love visiting europe in summer, it seems much... cleaner
Beijing makes a dirty impression because of all the cars and construction

Then I die. What's the point here; that I can't conjure 10 mil into existence, and no one cough it up on my behalf? Nothing shocking there.

Then you agree that you have no right to live?

In places where no-one in their right mind would want to live maybe. The civilised world has always had a form of welfare, it's one of the reasons it doesn't descend into chaos.

And you have to pay for other people's lunches, boo hoo for you. Although odds are you are a net receiver of lunches rather than a net payer.

The concept of right is silly. It made sense when people believed in God to some extent, but now its just a myth people try to use to steal my property.

as long as its in effect in the mentality of the majority of people out there, it's not a myth, it's reality! this is the concept of conventional law at work.

Oh okay, in that case you don't have any right to keep that money. Cough up for my free lunch, I'm in the mood for Indian.
