I found a Fathom! What to do?

    Hi
so i found this in CS yesterday with my trapper...
    shaking hands...
    ID
    30% dam:prop:

so i know its a crime not build a sorc around this item...
but what type of sorc? i like only PvM especially CS and WSK. i dont like the high TC zones without a big boss in the end:)

Obviously a cold sorc, blizz sorc is best.

DF + NW = GZ Blizz sorc!

DF is very expensive indeed, so you are already on the right track.

    o_O

    why?

telebomb the OK's and let your merc thump 'em. their AI seems to be set to cast Decrepify at close range and IM at medium range. at least, thats how i deal with them.

oh, and infinity won't crack many cold immunes.

this telebombing sounds fun but what can i do when one of the minibosses are cold immune?:D

"oh, and infinity won't crack many cold immunes."

    static charge + merc.

my fire sorc can solo hell baal with the aid of a well kitted out merc (gaze, gbane, e-Obedience CA), some static charge and a lot of glacial spikes.

    if you're going dual-tree, i'd go a straight-out meteorb sorc.

And what do you do when there are 2 or 3 OKs next to each other and one of them IM you while you telebomb the other? Waste time separating them?

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

From my experience with a cold sorc and a "1-hit kill from IM" merc (which is essentially vital for a pure cold sorc, since there are so many CIs that require a merc to clear), CS is basically down to luck. If you run into an unfortunately-positioned group of IM casters (especially champions), your run is likely to take a long time. Sometimes it'll go alright, other times you'll end up spending a few hundred k reviving the moron. It's not much fun, either way.

Sell it, get HRs -> Make g0zul33t whatever. :afro:

Edit: I'd never keep any perfect or even near-perfect items; the trade value is simply too good. I mean, for the price of a 30% Fathom, you could buy maybe five 25% ones.

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

If you do build a soso around this, it HAS to be cold only, don't go dual tree.

    Bye bye chaos, hello throne!

In throne of destruction, out of all the waves, I believe only the death mages from the 2nd wave are always cold immune. Sometimes a superunique like Lister will have a dual immunity, but a well equipped merc can always take care of that.

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

Throne isn't really that much fun for a pure cold sorc. You are guaranteed a wave of CI minions (the skellies) which require telestomping and a high-dmg merc, and if Lister is CI with other nasty effects (extra fast, stone skin, whatever) then you'll need a very nice merc to do the job, even if you're helping with 50% from static and stunlocking with tk.

    Certainly do-able, but not optimal.

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

Lister with nasty mods is never a problem for my meteorb sorc (even when he is dual immune, and 2 more bad mods, like extra strong + fanat). Just lure him away from Baal a bit, then telekinesis him until he drops. As for the skeles, I remembered nightfish's suggestion of carrying a bonehew and CEing the crap out of them.

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

Skellies are really not much of a problem. Just kill the main critters and the skellies die in 2-3 hits from your merc. Teleport on top of them one by one and it's easy as one two three :)

Re: I found a Fathom! What to do?

That's a pretty good idea, definitely worth trying.

And yeah, I wasn't saying the skellies were difficult, just time-consuming. CE would definitely help, though.
