I can't delete this file that's in Use!!

So I used to have the problem with video files, now it's also .exe files.
windows XP Prof
I am not running the file in my toolbar, nor in the systray.
I press ctrl-alt-del, nothing near the program is there.

Usually during a video file being used, I try to move it to a seperate folder, than deleting it, and sometimes/usually this works. With this exe, I can't even move it.

Thanks.

Boot into safe-mode, hit f5 during startup, then delete it there.

If that doesn't work then boot with a Linux Live CD such as Knoppix or DamnSmallLinux and delete it there.

Or...ctr-alt-del to task manager, in processes terminate explorer.exe, then delete the file via command prompt (start run cmd or file new task cmd), then file new task explorer.exe to restart explorer. Worked for me every time I've had one of those undeleteable files.

Ohhh, a Windows user that knows how to deal with GUI immutables and she's a girl.

Talk geeky to me.

when I try to delete the file in cmd, it says it cannot find the file.

The file has a very long name...

say the filename is:
jackie the dog ate my homework when I was out.exe

I type in:
del jackie the dog ate my homework when I was out.exe

it says:
Could not find c:\folderwherefileis\jackie.exe

I tried to rename it, but that doesn't work also because file in use.

This is just a shot in the dark, but you are aware that you have to use quotation marks if the name contains spaces, right?
