Hydra dmg on mercs

Heya, I've finally managed to lvl my tal sorc enough so she can do solo baal runs and I've been noticing something weird (at least to me) When the Act 3 Boss pack is summoned they naturally start spamming those oh so annoying hydras, I usually dispatch of the mob in a couple of meteors. The weird thing is that I can usually stand in / near the hydras for a pretty long time coming out virtually unscathed (I have only 54 fire resist), while my merc with 75 fire resist gets completely torn apart by them.

Do hydras do different damage on mercs, just like bosses or am I seeing things that aren't there. Maybe I can actually block hydra shots and that's why I'm not getting as much damage, I do have 75 block, but I never notice any block animation / sound.

Oh and also when teleporting to Baal, sometimes I meet those winged demon thingies (succubi (?)), and when my mana is more than my life, they will use that blood curse, causing me to use life instead of mana, which is not a very nice thing while teleporting. To counter this I remove all my mana charms from my inventory when teleporting, but once I get my sojs I don't think this is gonna help much.
When using Tal set I don't have this problem, but when I teleport I switch to Wiz + Splendor, which results in me having much more mana. I was wondering what you guys do to prevent this, or do you just chug lots of HP pots while tele-ing?

Heh, I'm glad to hear that someone else also has the Hydra/merc problem!

I never really looked into it, thinking 'He probably is just taking a lot of damage', but I have the same thing. I have an act 2 merc with 55% fire res and 3k life due to BO, and he dies within ten seconds on a council run if I don't keep feeding him full rejuvs. My sorc has less than 10% fire res, but she is wearing the Rising Sun (giving her around 60 fire absorb) and she is being HEALED by the council's hydras. She has base dexterity, so blocking is out of the question here. Maybe it's some kind of bug?

Can't you just use Tal's set while teleporting, and drink a mana pot every now and then if you run out of the blue stuff?

well the problem is with tal set I only reach the 63% FCR breakpoint, while with weaponswitch I just top the 105% breakpoint. This means I teleport pretty quick :D I could try teleporting with just Tal set and see if I die, although dying doesn't really appeal to me :scared:

And so it isn't just me, hydras are just the ideal merc killers, now to find ways to counter it

good point....my merc always dies from does anoying hydras in a few seconds....:rant:

DUMB MERC lol jk.....
blizzard should make mercs have better AI and to turn on their auras (act2) WHEN they get out of town...

Those Hydras that are spammed in the Throne Room are pretty hefty. They hardly hurt my Sorceress, but my Merc aswell, even with near maxed resistances takes quite alot damage.
I think the reason to this is, that the hydras will aim at the Merc more than at your char. I mean look, those council members spam like 10-12 Hydras, all aiming at your Merc. Even with maxed fire resistances he will go down fast to that!

Hmm, is it a fact they seek out your merc or is this just based upon experience, I'll pay some more attention to it myself now, thanks for pointing that out
new tactic: just teleporting straight into the hydras, that seems to keep em occupied :lol:

oh and another question: I hear a lot of people saying it's best not to hold down right mousebutton for teleporting, what's the thought behind that?

You teleport quicker, the game won't wait for you to click the button again, it just castst he spell again. You can easily move your mouse to aim the direction you are going to teleport. It is also easy to teleport over gaps this way.

I really do think it is a bug or there doing double damage b/c i have max resit on my merc and he is lvl 90 and he still goes down pretty fast to hydras even with 17% leach. It would be nice to see if someone could test the amount of damage that they are doing.
