Hydra and MF

Just a quick and probablt stupid question...

Is mf affected at all when a hydra gets the killing shot?

Maybe it's just a combination of imagination, superstitious paranoia, bad luck and strange coincidence but I could swear I see worse drops whenever I kill with a hydra...

Hmm, i had the same feeling with my Hydra/Orb build, but maybe i need to wave away the superstition.
When Hydra lands the killing blow it mostly seems like total crap drops compared to when landing the last blow with another skill and the same item setup.

Anyone else can see this? Facts would be interesting. We already have 2 superstitious posters here. More will only add to a new myth :)

I dont like to cause panic. And I dont like making rumors.

I guess I dont have to worry cause my hydra/fo is only lvl 26!

Sorry never used hydra at all in my life.

Hope its not true though. Hopes this breaks your bad mfing curse.

Could have been luck. With zero mf its still possible that rares, sets, and uniques drop. With the assumption that u do a ton of runs its a pretty good chance with even zero mf you would get a set item to drop.

This is probably not going to help, but some one has to oppose untill it is 100% proven. I aint going to do it sorry!

You can't prove a negative in this case unless there's something in the game code we can see.

Hydra works nearly identically to assassin traps. They're treated like a minion in that +mana per kill doesn't work with them (however, I've read that + fire skill damage does work properly).

So, unless someone decompiles the code that says hydra doesn't work with MF, we should assume it works fine.

Are you deaf, or is it you cant read! They said it seems as if mf drops when using hydra are lower. Maybe it just needs to be clearified that it does work to keep us who are skeptics happy. I am not arguing either way. Just trying to make it an acurate answer without making any assumptions.

Ever heard of the Scientific Method?

Deaf? I think the right description would be blind... haha I'm just flaming the flamer. All in good fun of course...

I haven't noticed that hydras get any worse drops, though as you said, this game is all luck. We can start to build a hypothesis though, I smell a revolution coming on.

I'd once heard that, in PvP, the message for a Hydra kill is or used to be 'player slain by Hydra' or something like that, rather than 'player slain by sorceress'. Is that true? I've never played PvP (and I've never died to a Hydra) so I wouldn't know...

Oh, and by your description, I should assume Assassin traps work fine with mf, yes? (I've never made a trap Assassin...).

I mf:ed a lot in 1.10 with a FO/Hydrasorc and it worked fine, didn't notice any difference in drops compared to other builds.

Since then i did quit LOD for the last time, yepp, no more gamemonkey on my back...until a couple of days ago when we had the first Blizzard of the winter season here in Sweden...so here I am again with a regiment of expired chars and an mf:er-in-spe baby FO/Hydra sorc struggling through Norm...this game is worse than crack :cheesy:

Welcome back addict! :howdy:
Good to hear some "postive" reports here too. Maybe Liliel and me are just blurring our mind. Hopefully.

I thought I'd weigh in, since I farm meph exclusively with a hydra/orb sorc. It seems that for most purposes, hydras are treated like minions. So, mf definitely works with them. Remember, the Quality (ilvl or usefulness) are not affected by mf, only whether the item is magic, set, unique, or rare. I mention this because it is easy to question the effectiveness of mf after mephy drops you his 92nd green breastplate or 53rd gold crossbow, when in fact mf has no bearing on whether it is a bp or cb. If you had on less mf they would still drop, but more of them would have been white or blue.

Following along the tangent, it is true that some effects do not work with hydras (minions, remember.) When running the pit, I wear a nature's peace ring. With an orb kill, I get the nice "wooomb" from the RIP feature. When hydra slays 'em, no such luck. It is the difference between a necro's skeleton killing a monster and the necro himself bashing him over the head.

Finally, + to fire skills certainly helps hydra because it summons a higher level hydra which does more damage. I believe that you have to have the hydra cast before you slap on the + skills, so you can't "bump" your hydra after he's cast, but I'll have to check this for sure. I will say that with mf gear, my lvl 26 hydra, 26 fm, 20 fb and 7 fbolt, i do 833-966 damage. Slap on rising sun and that goes 900-1040 due to the extra fire skill (I usually wear a +1 sorc ammy.)

Ok, this got a little long, but I hope it helped.

Damn right!

Just kidding!
I just wanted what I am sure we all want. The safe feeling that all our mf gear is not waisted when using hydra. Kind of like noob Lightning trappers socketing all there equipment with lightning facets.

I would never want to piss anyone off; I was trying to give comfort, so everyone realizes that when Mephisto drops Beserker's axe for the third game in a row, all of that expensive, hard earned MF gear is doing its job, even with Hydra. We should all toast our success, because our 513% MF turned that object green! :buddies:

Thanks MammaMu and cotton for sharing your experiences. I think I'm just gonna have to try MFing with Hydra for awhile and see if it averages out; maybe I just had terrible luck before. And I do know that MF doesn't make you get uber items; by 'worse drops' I meant 'very few unique, set or rare in comparison to what I was getting with other attacks'. Hehehe, if only we all got a dollar (in real money) for every Isenhart's Case eh.

I didnt know the money system in diablo was based on the dollar.

Hell I would be happy with a dime every time. The game would have practically paid for itself within the first couple of years.
