There are some many options, it's actually a miracle that we have got this far.
-Our own stupidity (endless possibilities)
-Big asteroid
-Supervolcano eruption (Yellowstone etc.)
-Nasty, fast spreading virus that has resist to modern medicine.
-Supernova explosion relatively close to Earth, ejecting a huge amount of gamma radiation our way.
-Death of Chuck Norris :thumbup:

I think, that we are going to be responsible for our own death in the end.

^Idk if some of that would take out every last one of us. People can live underground, and as stated before, the big astroid might not happen to come by for billions of years. And no matter what the virus is, there will always be a few who are immune to it.

Well, maybe it's a difference of respective, as I think that humanity will end when most of us are wiped out. After that you can barely talk about humanity since rest of the people will be fighting for resources like animals.

But if you mean that all of us are gone, then it takes something really catastrophic..

I don't see how we would be fighting for resources with so few people left. There would be plenty of animals for everyone, no? And, people would procreate rapidly to replenish the world's population.

It depends on the disaster really, if something caused a nuclear winter for example, there would indeed be very little resources since it would affect all life.

right..., i think it's much less of a miracle that we survived, than the miracle that caused us to evolve into this *insert nice word or mean word*
i mean, what are the chances of THAT

also, i think, the reason we still live despite of all these extinction possibilities, is that they simply get outweighed by the sheer amount of survival possibilities (wow, a whopping 51% of survival chance within a time span of a few billion years, lucky 1%)

Corporate America somehow gets all people in all countries to become morbidly obese, making them perfect consumers. Everyone dies of heart disease and stroke.

there's a short sci-fi story (i forgot/don't know authers name) called Bobo's Star (I think). it's pretty much the same idea.

a kid get's a "star creation kit" (sounds like FO i know...the GECK... Garden of Eden Creation Kit). he keeps feeding it mass...it eventually becomes a black hole and sucks everything up. it's actually very well written and engaging/entertaining, despite such a simple plot.

I always wonder about this: Couldn't China just say (at any time), "America, give us our ten trillion dollars back. Now. ... ... ...No, right now please."

Idk what the actual figgure is, but I think every Americain would want to commit sepuku because there's no way anyone can pay them back, especially now. So that takes care of America...not sure about rest of world.

america CAN'T instantly repay any real debts, this is not the classical rich swine collects debts and mobs poor people situation, we're speaking about a country with needs that are above repayment here...
it WOULD seriously damage american economy, though, if china decided to actually do that, but it wouldn't just take care of america, but probably it would take care of the whole world and china with it...
