How will humanity end?

Not the entire world (all life), but just humans. How do you all think we will become extinct?

I think it will be from the next Ice Age, but I have to read more about how frequent those are. There was one time when the entire planet Earth was covered in solid ice.

Some think meteor, but for all we know, it could be 10 million years before anything significant comes our way. An Ice Age is (I think) is only centuries away, and isn't one inevitable?

i think our excellent adaptation abilities will outlast ice age or the other kind of climate change, even though we'll take losses...

i think what'll finish us is either something really catastrophic (meteor, our stupidity) or just plain and simple failing to get off this solar system before the sun burns us up...

Well, we could just hop to the next farther planet as the sun expands. That should be easy, and it takes forever for the sun to actually die. It dies by first expanding very slowly (which would consume Earth), but it won't happen for another 4 billion years IIRC.

if we don't destroy ourselves first, eventually inevitability (a meteor hits earth or whatever catastrophic event happens completely out of our control or before/beyond we are technologically able/capable of dealing with it) will get us.

as to the most likely way to destroy ourselves....hmm..i guess world war 3. we have a war and it goes nuclear. some humans, WILL survive the nuclear blasts and winter, but not for long with so few humans and challenges of survival. the few remaining humans will slowly fail to survive and humanity dies out.

maybe in 3 years from now (2012 mayan doomsday date), Jeb Bush runs against Obama and wins, and he has the U.S. go to war with nuclear Iran and the war goes nuclear on each ohter. probably the russians and north korea step in and help Iran against the U.S. making at least 4 nuclear participants launching nukes over our world. maybe pakistan and india also go at it with nukes. this is sooo possible...it's making me wet my pants...it's so scary and possible, it's not funny at all.... i hope i'm very wrong about this !

I think it will end on a Saturday morning just after tea. And it will probably ruin the weekend. On the plus-side: no Monday.

Pretty sure we'll survive future ice ages, we did survive the last one after all. Snow ball Earth could kill us but I don't think it’s very likely, that’s only happened one in Earths history I think and it’s only a theory anyways.

Meteor would have to be a "global killer" as in nothing but bacteria survives otherwise I think we could adapt (some of us) otherwise.

We'll probably kill ourselves somehow (nuclear/biological weapon, scientific accident).

In the following 50 years AI will surpass the human brain and develope self awareness.
Men will still have the power though and will use AI to create a paradise. Eternal life in a matrix-like world. While we our selves will be uplaoded to hardware. Matter-to-energy will fuel our living for trillions of years, while each second will last a million years for any of us due to speed of calculation.
We will be godlike in our matrix world. Masters over our very instincts. We will be able to artificially raise our sexual desire (for example) and exist in a state of constant orgy for some billions years, while ofcourse the pleasure and horniness will be increased too. Some will choose to exist in an eternal heroin world. Some will switch to savour the battle frenzy for some millenia or learn all there is to learn about our universe.
Some will go on jouneys throughout the universe in our cybertronic god-like bodies.
Ultimatley some would seek the final kick and gamble with their lives. And when there is nothing to do or see many would choose to vanish into death.
Those who will keep living will exist until there is matter to convert into energy. And thats A LOT of time.

There are so many ways humanity can end -
- with Forever Of The Stars spying in our heads causing our extincion,
- bad navigating and hitting the sun
- bad navigating and getting out of orbit
- tied to a chair listening to Modern Talking
We just don't know what's going to happen. Probably not like the opening lines to Iron Maiden's Quest for fire.
