How to save the Big 3 US automakers

Uh... in reality, there's always going to be someone who can't repay under a fractional reserve banking system. And for the record, your analogy is terrible.
My analogy is just fine as it depicts the way I see something. You can say I'm wrong, but I get to choose my analogy. I was apparently wrong. I'm going to post in the other thread in a while.

Of course you can choose your analogy, but that doesn't make it a good one. Props to you for recognizing that the operation of the monetary and financial system with respect to banking is not like an internal combustion engine in a car. If anything, the traffic rules would be a better analogy. You'd have to make them dumber, but you get the idea- bad rules and a bad system can lead to bad results.

GIGO Gottcha.
IMHO on the topic issue:
Save the one that started it all and still is making good cars, if I was in the market I like the Fords.

Oh yeah, that makes sense. My way of describing my viewpoint is wrong! nu-uh! Uh-huh! nu-uh!

Ooh, an insult! I have been maligned! (maybe bobcox2 can recognize that)

If your analogy, your way of describing your viewpoint, doesn’t do a good job of that, it’s bad analogy. I don’t know what else to tell you.

You think that’s an insult? Let alone one from me? I'm insulted. You should talk to AJ. :whistling: I mean, you seem new to the OTF, but man... Giving a guy props is an insult? What has this place come to? :coffee:

The reserve requirement is 10%. See your other thread.
And it only applies to deposit-taking financial institutions, I think. That's how it is here, at least, I think I heard that it was the same in the US.

It very much seemed sarcastic. My apologies.

Trust me, if I am going to insult you, it will be extremely obvious. Maybe I'll get to the sarcasm after that, or if you have a terrible record, but you really have to earn it. I can see how it might seem like an insult, but trust me, around here, it's a compliment.

Not even that simple, IIRC.

'Famous last words' of the financial crisis:

"The problems in the subprime market seems likely to be contained."
— Ben Bernanke, Federal Reserve chairman, March 28, 2007

"We don't see any pressure on our liquidity, let alone a liquidity crisis."
Alan Schwartz, former CEO of Bear Stearns, March 12, 2008.

"We have more capital than we need, so we can say to the market that we don't need more injections. We can confirm that we have tackled the problem."
— John Thain, former CEO, Merrill Lynch, March 16, 2008

"The fundamentals of our economy are strong."
— Sen. John McCain, former Republican presidential candidate, Sept. 15, 2008

And last, but not least:

"I don't think the government ought to be involved in bailing out companies."
— President George W. Bush, July 15, 2008

Whoa, wait a second here. You're telling me that even though I voted in a bunch of Democrats to give them control of the House and even things up in the Senate in 2006, the Republicans still managed to **** things up? Damn their omnipotence!

McCain was probably right about that. This crisis is a crisis of confidence, the underlying economies are still sound. At least, as sound as they were.

The government couldn't have reasonably prevented this situation, no matter which flag it was flying.

Lose of confidence comes when people realize that the whole system is basically fraud. Madoff’s case is just one proof.

Damn your ignorance. Laying the blame on any one political party for this mess is about as logical as blaming individual mortgage holders.

On top of that, I seriously doubt that you voted for any Democrats, Mr. Stout.

You mean you're not just blaming Republicans? I can roll with that. Could have fooled me though.

This may shock and confuse you, but not everyone is a one-party voter.

You're an idiot. The entire stock market is built on confidence.
