How to make a Briton very very annoyed...

This is the reason why I´d like to see more historical movies out of Germany. They can´t warp history like the Americans... or all hell would probably break loose. They know about the not so pleasant side of historical revisionism and the building of national myths.

Stalingrad is one of the best war movies of all time and certainly the best I´ve ever seen about the eastern front. Check it out, if you can find it and don´t mind subtitles.
I never saw enemy at the gates. Maybe I should, just so I can compare the two and get all upset and stuff. Isn´t that one European BTW?

It is by Pathé, so I think you may be right there Dross.

I believe that it can't really compare with Stalingrad, but it is indeed a good film. As for historical accuracy, I cannot comment too much as my knowledge of the specifics of the Battle is pretty poor TBH.

Das Boot may be an interesting one to see, if you haven't already.

Yeah. Das Boot is a great movie. I know some find it a bit boring, but I loved it. I don´t know how accurate Das Boot is historically. Maybe you could tell me...

Stalingrad paints a pretty good picture of how things could be over there. It doesn´t show much of the operations and that stuff, the strictly military side of the battle, but from what I´ve read about the battle it is pretty truthful about the conditions people lived under there. There are a lot of letters written by both german and soviet soldiers published in various books so it would have been possible to base it on "real events", but I´m pretty sure letters like that have not been used in the movie, other than as general inspiration perhaps.
