How to Kill Durial #2

Sorry guys, Ime new at this. Thanks for the responses.

I was so mad- I deleted the characters (those loosers!!). My most promising though was a barbarian. If I remember correctly: His hit points were like 300, he was swinging a mace socketed with a normal ruby, emerald, and somthing else in one hand and somthing similar in the other hand. I was was using the bash and double swing- somthing like 6 points toward each skill. His resistances were low though. His chest armour was like 90 or so. What other information do I need to provide?

I am starting my last try to build a character that can beat Durial and allow me to procede in the game, I have started another barbarian. What is a recommended way to build a barbarian?

a barb is one of the hardest to play as your first character. i'd recommend a necro or sorc starting out to get decent items to transfer over to a barb later if you want to build one. but you can get all the common builds in the barbarian forum.

Try this WW Guide

or this Frenzy Guide

The main thing I remember from playing Barbs was to not waste skill points.

Shout - is better than iron skin, so invest in that instead.

Plus for weapon mastery , dont do all of them, just max out 1 that appeals to you, dont waste points in other ones.

Synergies - All of the top skills have synergies, max out your primary skill then max out the synergies, u cant use 3 or 4 different skills.

Equipment - u should be using low level uniques

I would do about 20 Andariel runs ( just run down and kill her) until u get some nice low level equipment.

Level - I would reccomend level 26 at least before u do duriel.

Arm a couple of small cold charms this will help slow duriel down.

Get a cold arrow merc, this will also help slow duriel down, either that or a Act 2 town guard defensive merc, this will give u more AC.

Shout also increases your mercs AC.

I´ve found out something that helps a lot against Normal Duriel.

As Holy Freeze now makes the user of it do cold damage with attacks, I advice you to wear at least 35% cold resistance and before the fight, drink a good number of Thawing potions (and give equally many to your merc). These potions give a temporary +50% cold resist and ups the maximum resist you can have to 85%. Duriel is much easier to handle this way.

Also, I´ve found that some of the best early available equipment you can have against D with a melee character is a 'Steel' Flail (buy a 2-socketed Flail from Fara and put Tir + El runes in it) and a Bone Shield of Deflecting (Drognan sells those). Even if the build is a 2h-weapon user or a
dual wielder, I definately recommend the big blocking shield for this particular fight.

Forget dual wield and whirlwind. A Concentrate Barb with a shield is what I recommend. Dual wielding looks cool on screen and whirlwind is fun too but when you get to Hell lvl I think they become a liability. The extra defense that a shield provides is great and a Barb can use a two hand sword with one hand. The other advice in this thread about cold resistance and thawing potions is good to note. Here is a good guide http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=130865
What ever character you chose to make, good luck.

First id like to point you to read me response in the other post.
to sumarize, Get lots of full rejuvs and at least 1 row of greater healing, especially for a barb. Potion management is paramount against Duriel. Pump vitality if you dont need it for anything else. get a defience merc in act 2. get life leech. Once in duriels chamber, open a tp.

That said, as recomended above, get a shield with decent chance to block. I would recomend using concentrate as well, even if its just 1 point as it is a prereq for bezerk and whirlwind. the thawing potion idea is also good, as it will reduce the damage duriel does, however wont keep you from freezing. Also said above, get cold damage for you and/or your merc. You noticed how much slower you are when you are chilled, cold damage will do the same to duriel, and it will level the "playing field" so to speak. you should be able to find a wepon with cold damage, or a 1-2 cold damage sc (req lvl 10 i believe). worse come to worse, socket a weapon with a saphire.

For some reason ive never had a problem with Duriel, always Diablo. But i am in the minority. Duriel is just a beast with high life points and his holy (unholy?) freeze aura slows you down.

i don't know why, but my character is wearing a Death's Guard sash (1 mod is 'Cannot be frozen') yet Duriel still gets me with his Holy Freeze. What's with that?

lol Duriel was the hardest boss I faced when I first started the game. It's good to have a good merc around and use him as a meat shield while you hack away. Keep drinking potions while fighting him and have some thawing potions around. It's generally easier with a summon necro since you can use skellies as meat sheilds. Also make sure you have max block if you're going melee.

Cannot be Frozen doesn't work on Holy Freeze.

I had that bright idea the first time I fought Duriel by myself and found Death's Sash.

Might want to try loading up with Crushing Blow. It might give you a better chance with less hits to killing this beast. If your doing cold damage then at least your freezing him back that can help even the odds. Watch out for his charge !!

My favorite way to kill Durial is with a summonmancer with loads of skelles, spamming bonewalls in his way to keep him from getting to you, while cursing him. You just have to keep from getting hit.

I appeared in front of Duriel for the first time today - not knowing what to expect - he got in my face and killed me and my merc immediately. I then kept trying to go back to get my body and he's always right there on me. There's now about six of my bodies laying around him and I have no decent weapons anymore - they are all in his lair. Should I just give up and start over? I have a level 24 barb. I got this far mainly by throwing ranged weapons - axes and javelins. That won't work with him because he runs right up in your face and there is nowhere to retreat and throw. He freezes you so you can't run anyway.
