How to get an orb over 1000?

I was just reading the Hardcore RIP list, and someone said that he had an orb sorc that was doing 1200 orb. Egads! Even with +25 skills I dont see 1200 orbs...

I assume that's the eq like nightwing and stuff. Can people with high orbs post their setup?

Just from a skillpoint of view and added +skills and cold-skillers you can already get close to 1000 damage:

    lvl20 Icebolt
    lvl20 Frozen Orb
lvl20 Cold Mastery (this will put even more into damage since -xx% res to monsters with 0% cold resistance wil multiply the damage)

    +12 skills
    +10 Cold Skillers

Frozen Orb Damage: 821-875 damage per shard

Now add damage from Death Fathom, Nightwing Veil, etc.
And you will surely get more than 1000 Orb damage :D

OK, how to calculate the effect of equipment?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I kinda figured a whole truckload of +skill charms (mental image of this sorc with a truck behind her).

Then I guess the follow up question is how do +% cold dmg damage from eq is calculated? Is it % of the number after the synergy has been applied?

Mhmm, the +xx% damage is calculated with synergies, so its added to the base damage and not afterwards like the masteries on Fire and Lightning tree.

    So lemme get this right

I guess cold is a bit different since its mastery doesn't actually add damage, let's take fire for eample:

Let's say my fireball base damage does 100 pts. I have synergy that adds 10%, eq that adds 20%, and mastery that adds 30%. According to how I understand you, the calculation would be:

    (100 * (1+.1+.2)) * 1.3 = 169

For cold I guess it's easier, just add all the %s from synergy and eq:

    100 * (1+.1+.2) = 130

    Am I correct?

    Thanks.

Correct, but with Cold you also have to consider Cold Mastery! When you hit monsters that have 0% cold resistance you will do almost double damage and for those with resists not higher than your cold mastery -xx% res you will also do more damage than displayed.

    Yeah mastery

Yeah cold mastery rocks. I'm making a new orb focused sorc, in case DClone ever wants to chat again (only faced him once though :( ). 10000 pt fireball = 500 pts again Dclone, 500 pt orb = 1000 pts per shard with max mastery :D
