How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

    Regarding a2 merces.

When im done running chaos and wanting to kill diablo, once he spawns his firestorm attack, my merc dies within a blink of a second.

Is it only fire damage? Any good way to make my merc virtually immune for it? I hate resurrecting my merc all the time -.-

Re: How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

My merc get killed around once per 100 runs or less (BO not used, merc has only 2007 life).

Using Reaper's Toll, eth Blackhorn's face(rare jool), and Gladiators Bane. Tal armor works too. My merc is using Gladiators Bane(sol) as I do Nihlathak runs too. That helmet and max light resist should be enough against Diablo.

Diablo goes after my sorc, so merc has easy job.

Im planning on using a hammerdin, so hell take the beating.

Blackhorn for the light res, but that wont do anything against firestorm. Gladiators bane with a mal will nullify?

Firestorm or lightning inferno? If you can get something with teleport charges, tele on top of him and his lightning inferno will miss you and your merc.

Re: How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

Just stack up one fire resistance, max resistance should be enough.

If that doesn't cut it, try to find magic damage reduction as found on a mal (rune).

P.S. If that's not enough, you really have a problem. Then you want to work on his life, or life leech. It's not so simple then. DH Amazon has some good suggestions although this probably means getting completely different gear.

Re: How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

Don't line up with your merc when fighting D, else those firestorms will hit him as well which are aimed at you. However, if you need your merc to kill him (and thus your merc damages him the most), D will most probably attack him anyway.

Numerical fire absorb works very fine on D's fire storm because it consists of hundreds of small fires and absorb works on each of them separately. The problem is, there are no merc items with fire absorb which are worth wearing, except Phoenix, but I guess if it's about a hammerdin's marc, you don't want to live without Insight and its mana replenishment.

Re: How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

When a single firestorm kills an act 2 merc - he needs better equipment. If you're high enough to run chaos, your merc should be at a decent level that his own natural fire res is high.

When you consider the bonuses that bosses get, you might want to make sure its not Big D laying the smackdown on your merc with a melee attack as the merc gets hit extra hard.

I wouldn't say that, steelshade isn't terrible, its just that you've got so many better alternatives.

Re: How to deal with Diablo's firestorm

Removing merc's weapon before D is one option, that way D probably attacks you. Merc is usually quite useless anyway while killing Dia, so removing his weapon don't affect your killing speed.

For example I remove harmony bow from my merc before Dia or otherwise she get killed everytime.
Not sure if removing insight works, never tried. At least removing weapon works if weapon gives lots of elemental damage.

Steelshade is one of the most terrible uniques in the game (if not the most terrible one), in particular for mercs. For them, it has nothing useful but a bit of fire absorb.

Oh whoops, mixed it up with stealskull. Yep, totally agree with you there, and the fire absorb itself doesn't have enough impact to justify it.

GA and Crown of Thieves would be the better combo. All he needs is fire protection. The lightning hose will miss in melee (except in normal mode).

Well its not that hard to get gold to buy your merc back. I think more than enough gold can be obtained since you can sell certain items that are useless for 35k gold. So tell me what is the big deal resurrecting your merc?

It's still better than just staying dead.
