Make a FoHer hybrid if you are dead set on that skill - pure FoH is mediocre at best. Check out guides for V/T, T/V and Mage - which are all completely viable in PvP. Stickies at top.

Holy bolt will only make your FOH do holy bolt damage to undead, so don't put ANYTHING there thats not a prereq.

You have 2 choices when making a Max FOH damage pally:

1. Max conviction along with FOH and holy shock. This will let you kill almost every other FOH pally out there. However, decreases your versatility vs all other classes due to a lack of a secondary form of attack.

2. Get your conviction to 25-30 with items and use the rest of your points on another skill. Since your not going to have that many points after maxing FOH, shock, Holy shield and prereqs, I would go for smite, since it doesn't require much to make this skill effective, and you already have Holy shield maxed for more dmg. So, put your points into fanaticism, as it will increase ur smite dmg and attack speed, making you a formidable melee fighter vs all except pure smiters.

I wouldn't suggest trying another skill after you max ur FOH requirements, they just are not as effective as Smite.

So here's the layout:

Max FOH, Holy Shock, Holy shield
35-30 Conviction with gear
Rest into fanaticism

Equipment:
Griff's with lightning facet and Shako for smiting
Enigma and COH
+2 skills +STR +res or Maras amulet
3/3/1 FOH stick and Grief Zerk axe
Bloodfist and rare 20ias +str +dex +res gloves, Trangs
Arachs and Tgods
BK and SOJ and wisp and raven
HOZ W/ lightning facet
Treks and Waterwalks

This allows great versatility vs any type of opponent:

If you want to charge a zon, put on grief, shako, raven, nigma, waterwalks (for life) and kill them

For max block: Waterwalks, Rare GLoves (for dex) This combo allows me to have max block without having to put much into dex. At the same time, this combo of gear is the best vs whoever I would need max block against.

Max res setup: COH, rare gloves, treks wisp or Tgods vs lightning, ravens and trangs vs cold.

Necros: Nigma, Bloodfist (for more fhr)

Pretty much whatever situation, this gear will give you the right combo to take them on.

Switching from FOH to Smite gear is beautiful because usually this is how it happens: Opponent attacks you, they die by FOH, they go get their Res gear on, you get your melee gear on, Opponent dies by Smite, then they don't know what the hell to do, lol.

Sorry this was really long, hope it helps though.

for 1v1 maybe, but pure fohers can be very good for team pvp b/c of the extra points available for auras... lvl 25 convic + max res light = convic other team for -150 res or give team 95 light res if necessary or use salvation to give team stack res (nice for vs LR / blizzers / etc)
