How much dex for max block?

I know its an unanswerable question without specifics :)

Some guarantees:

Eth bugged vortex (elite shield, not sure which yet)
Grief PB
Guilliams
Dracs
Dungos
Fort AP
Low torch
Low anni
Raven
Natures peace
Metalgrid

I have a few of the pieces, several coming in, and looking for a few runes :)

My pally is lvl 80, with ~350 unused stat points (TY Ubers).

IDK why I typed all that out, because heres my question: Is there a calc I can use to input my gear/stats and figure out how much dex I need total to achieve max block?

I'd say put just enough stats points to put gear on, and see how much you need to reach the 75% chance to block. I don't think there is calc for that, just too much variables.

I'm pretty sure you mean Eth bugged Exile since Vortex is a type of shield... Anyway if you can, get your planned level before putting out dex for block... Try 90 if you don't have a planned "finishing level".

I might also add that Sacred Targe has the best blockchance of all elite palashields. I'm using exile eth vortex on ym v/t and, if I recall right (I'm not at a computer with dia on now) it's around 150ish.. I might be very wrong. However, somewhat lower for an ST eth exile. Just get all gear, get level 90 and then put dex until you see that 75% popping up.

I'm no expert on formulas, but there is a facts and formula sheet in the strategy compendium. http://strategy.diii.net/news.php?id=551
It may not be a calculator, but it should give you the answer you want.

It states that you can find max block by using this:
Chance to Block

Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)]

Blocking = A total of the Blocking on all of your items. (E.g: Guardian Angel, Twitchthroe, Any Shield, Holy Shield)
[] = Round Down

Note: Blocking on shield shown in game is capped at 75% while it may actually be higher. For a true account of most shields blocking ability... Look here forUnique, Set, and Magical/Rare shields. (for magical/rare, add the Blocking % from the suffix to the base blocking)

Note 2: Block chance is divided by 3 after the 75% cap. You can't block more than 25% when running.

Example: A lvl85 Paladin with 100 Dex, Guardian Angel(20%), lvl20 Holy Shield (35%) and a Herald of Zakarum(82%).

Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)]
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (100 - 15)) / (85 * 2)
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / (85 * 2)
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / 170
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / 170
= (137 * 85) / 170
= 11645 / 170
= 68.5
= 68% Chance to Block

Here is the formula I figured out from it for figuring out dexterity
Dexterity = ((Total Blocking * Character Level * 2) / Blocking) - 15

Re: How much dex for max block?

I've got a question about blocking. I recently found an armour (Guardian angel, I think it was) that gives better chanse to block, 20% if I remember correctly. Does this mean that I get +20% chanse to block regardless of anything else? Or that my shield simply gets a 20% better block rate? Because if I plan to use this armour, I probably won't need as much dex, specially if I find a shield with 75% block
So all I will need is a shield and enough dex to get to 55% block with holy shield and then smack on the armour, or is there some kind of formula it has to go through first?

It will just add to the shield's block rate, so it all has to go through the formula. You'll still end up needing less DEX than you would have otherwise.
