How long does it take for a char to expire..?
As the title says .
If the character is not permed, I.E. played for atleast 2 hours ingame, it will last 10 days only then expire.
If it is permed, then it's 90 days as I recall.
FYI, the time is controlled by your system clock.
strange... so if i moved my system clock ahead 90 days...? heh
Hmm... Maybe that's why I've managed to save some characters that were expired. If I catch them soon after they expire, it often says "Character Expired" but I try to log in with the character and it lets me. It then resets the counter to 10 days.
This is also probably why I often see "11 days left" as opposed to 10. Must be the time difference between where I am and the battle.net servers.
Edit: @ OP, I think it it uses your system clock to know what to display on the character screen, but the time is still ultimately controlled from bnet.
Messing with the system clock might make a character display as "expired" early, but will not unexpire a lost character.
Once you've played for 2 hours and gotten past the 10 day expiration, you will get a message after 60 days of no activity saying how many days you have left (30, 29, 28...). At that point "activity" can be just going into the chat channel or a game. Careful though...if you do too many characters too fast, 5 or 6 IIRC, you can get a temp IP ban.
It only displays the char as expired, it won't expire the character. If you switch the same clock back the character will then show the proper number of days until expiration. The clock is cosmetic, its just a simple way for them to show the character time, the actual time data is stored on the server regardless.
I get messages 60 days ahead of time!
