How is the +5% from jah calculated on helms?

Percent life (such as the jah rune, BO, werewolf, etc) is all added together and boosts your base life as well as any straight +life gear. It's important to note that %life will not affect +Vitality, +Vitality per level or +life per level.

So if the charms give straight +life then they are boosted by the jah rune.

edit:

So concluding its like this: Whatever you invested hard points in vita + charms that give +life * 5% ?

Yep, though it can be extended to be:

Whatever you invested hard points into vita + any source of +life (including charms, armor, etc) * all life% (including items, skills, etc)

Why, surely it's a tiny amount of life, a PRuby would probably give more life, esp if you have a CtA

Then again, this is BNet...

pruby gives 38 life.

i need around 700 life to break even.

I have at least double of that.

Actually, a P.Ruby will only lose out usually by a small amount (and sometimes even beat Jah rune) unless you have an absurd amount of base life... and in wereforms, P.Ruby is usually better.

I'm not sure how your Paladin is set up, but I'd be happy to show you how much more(/less?) Jah rune is giving your 'Din if you post stats.

But aesthetically, JahBer is a lot more appealing than Ber with P.Ruby. Haha.

I think if you are counting and you usually have BO, the computation goes like this if you already have other sources of increasing life (such as BO)

Suppose you have 1000 base life from hard points in Vit, levels, charms and +life items.
Suppose you usually are under the effect of a level 20 BO (+92% life, which means multiplying by 1.92).

Then you compare:
pefect ruby gives 1038 base life * 1.92 = 1992 life
Jah gives 1000 * (1.92+.05)= 1970 life

There are situations where each is better, but if you already have some +% life, that helps the ruby of course.

Typically in wereforms if you have bo and an oak even a 20 life jewel with an additional mod will out perform a jah in yur hat. the extra res or ED or whatever can get you alot further than the +18 life difference. unless your set for res and not a melee char of course. just my 2 cents :) Jah in shield is boss though
