How does magic find work with chests

Maybe somebody could clue me in? Do locked chests have a higher rate of drops? I know chests are not the way to go for finding stuff but i have came across some good stuff in locked chests before. How is magic find calculated with chests or baskets etc?

The same way it is calculated with monsters. You may find good items in locked chests because they have a chance for a double drop. When more items drop, you're more likely to find at least 1 good item. It's just like killing a lot of monsters. Some good items will drop, but a whole lot of bad ones will drop too. Same probability, just more items.

Thanks for the reply. What about items that require a certain monster level to be dropped? Since there is no monster how does that work?

Chests & corpses, IIRC, have a set TC that they can drop.. so even if they're in an area with monsters who can drop from a high TC, the chests can only drop from their particular TC, although I'm not sure what there are and where.

There are certian chests that alawys drop many items at once. When I was running Countess with my paladin every night for a month there were a couple Chests in the Tower that I always looked for before I finished the run and moved on the next game. There is one that is on level 3 at a "T" that always dropped a rare item and sometime a unique, and there is one on level 4 in a dead end area that dropped a minimum of 4 magic items, most of the time a rare was in it, and on occasion a unique.

The reason I started looking for these chests is because I'm a creature of habit and when something good happens I repeat it to see if it happens again. The chest that was off by itself on level 4 dropped a Shaft so it became a chest I looked for before going to level 5. The chest on level 3 was one I seemed to pass all the time anyway so I started clicking on it, when it dropped my Griz armor and then later a high rune (UM I think, been awhile now) it became religion to find it.

I don't know if there is a way to tell what the TC is on a chest other than having something drop from it and then going well that chest is at least TCxx in this game. When it happens more than once you have to conclude that it is TCxx in every game and is worth looking for. Of course now that we have been in this Ladder session for as long as we have the items you get from those chests have been botted and/or just found so much that you can get one easier by begging in a trade forum/channel

Given that monster levels are now set by area at least in hell diff, i would assume all other things such as chests, barrels etc... are at the level of the area. Historically chests have managed to defy the TC's they should drop from, and drop much much better items, normally charms.
